Its All About French Connection

French Connection has proven to be a highly popular brand amongst our Moss fans! The French Connection suits have a stylish cut and contemporary design, the suits are quite tailored so if you’re looking for a more generous fit then I wouldn’t go for this brand.

The most popular French Connection suit online and in store at the moment is the Grey PuppyTooth. This suit is quite versatile, it’s a fantastic suit for the summer the light colour will make your appearance look fresh and clean especially if you wear a crisp white shirt underneath. We’ve found a lot of people are wearing this to weddings & formal summer events, adding simple touches to this suit can make a huge change to the overall appearance, we think a red tie and matching red hanky really compliments this suit & changes the look to a highly formal and sartorial outfit.

It’s not just all about French Connection suits though, our new French Connection shirts have been crafted with style intelligence, the clean lines and muted shapes ensure that this shirt range remains effortlessly stylish! You can expect to see an array of micro checks, chambray & pin stripe designs on our site this week! Keep your eyes peeled!

Choosing To Hire For Your Prom This Year?

Cool, sharp and stylish…they’re just some of the words you’ll be feeling if you choose to hire your prom outfit at Moss Bros Hire this year.

Our prom fashion guide will explain everything you need to know from what tuxedo to choose and how to wear your accessories. First things first…You need a smart dinner suits, also commonly referred to as a tuxedo (tux).

We have the widest range of dinner suits on the high street for all shapes, sizes and budgets, as well as a wide selection of coordinating accessories.

Wearing ‘black tie’ for a school prom is made up of the following items of clothing:

1. A dinner suit comprises of a black, one, two or three button jacket, usually single-breasted and has either silk or satin lapels, pocket flaps and matching trousers with silk or satin edging running down the side seams. Go for a one or two button for a much more contemporary and stylish look.

2. The cummerbund, is a broad pleated sash, worn wrapped around the waist over the top of the waistband covering the shirt. The cummerbund is optional but it’s a great extra that will make you feel as cool as Daniel Craig.

3. The Bow tie or dickie bow , usually co-ordinates with the cummerbund and comes either as a self-tie, a ribbon of fabric tied around the collar symmetrically into a bow shape, or pre-tied with a clip on. A bow tie can be worn with either a wing collar or plain collar dress shirt. You can go crazy with the accessories and co-ordinate with your prom date. Check out the newly launched Ventuno 21 Prom accessories range for a selection of slick bow ties, waistcoats and cummerbunds in the season’s hottest colours.

4. Waistcoats are also optional but a great way of injecting a bit of personality into your black tie look. Avoid fussy designs with lots of embroidery, keep it monochrome or just add a splash of colour to look sharp.

5. Finally, Don’t let your outfit down with scuffed shoes. Black lace-ups are the best. Give them a good polish until you can see your reflection in them! Now you’re all clued up. Remember to get measured and fitted properly. This might be your first ever suit fitting, so it’s important to get it right and turn up to your prom looking the part. Have a great night!

Top 10 Tips For Grooms

1) Book early– Ideally grooms should be booking 4 to 6 weeks in advance for their wedding outfits. That way the groom can ensure that everything is booked in time for outfits to arrive for collection. Some suit choices are naturally more popular than others but booking early will ensure everything being on time so is highly recommended.

2) Come for a fitting in advance – Even if you know your size, we recommend that grooms and their party get properly sized by going to their nearest stores for a fitting in advance. Moss Bros Hire offer a fully tailored service where you’ll be measured from head to toe to ensure a perfect fit on the day!

3) Do your research– Make sure the grooms outfit is matching the theme of the bride. Ideally you want the colours to match and not clash and if your brides dress is ultra modern, then grooms may want something more contemporary. It’s often useful if you have a picture from a magazine to bring with you.

4) Saving money – In today’s current climate, every penny counts. At Moss Bros Hire, by booking four or more to be dressed in the wedding party, the groom goes completely free.

5) Button up – When it comes to wearing your outfit, grooms should leave the bottom button of your waistcoat undone and most people rarely do their morning jacket up. It’s something small but will make all the difference.

6) Shirt cuffs– For a truly sartorially smart look, grooms should leave an inch of shirt cuff below the coat sleeve as it balances out the crispness of the shirt at the neckline and contrasts with the dark morning suit.

7) All tied up – If grooms are stuck with how to tie your cravat or tie, don’t worry, ask a member of staff during your fitting to show you exactly how to do it on the day.

8) Collection– After grooms have had their fitting and booked the style, make sure you inform the rest of the party where their nearest store is around the country. Moss Bros Hire have 134 stores nationwide so there should be a store for everyone!

9) Accessorise – If grooms want to add a personal touch to their look, then add some fun cufflinks. Moss Bros do a great range of ‘Groom’ mother of pearl, enamel and crystal cufflinks.

10) Shoes – Last but not least, grooms must never forget to polish their shoes on the day, there’s nothing worse than scruffy shoes with a beautiful outfit!

Wimbledon Rules & Dress Guide

The biggest tennis event of the year has started, that’s right Wimbledon, the only time of the year when all the tennis courts in every park in Britain are fully booked!

If you’re heading down to centre court to sip champagne and eat strawberries & cream then you’ll need to look the part, remember this year there organisers have banned jeans and flip flops for fear of the traditional sartorial standards slipping. The dress standards for the players are also high with the Wimbledon Regulators enforcing a strict tennis whites (although the odd colourful stripe keeps coming through).

We’ve put together our top 5 rules and a dress guide to help you conform and look the part!

1) Much like the cinema make sure your mobile phone is switched off when your courtside, you don’t want to be the one the makes Nadal mess up his match winning serve!

2) Don’t forget to pack an umbrella, the forecast may be dry but don’t forget, it is Wimbledon.

3) Your there to cheer on your countries sportsman/woman & to show your love of the game but there’s no need to go over the top, silence is asked for during play.

4) We all love seeing the opposition make a double fault but don’t applaud in your moment excitement, show good sportsmanship!

5) If you’ve been down the gym bulking up for summer and want to show off then think again, keep your shirt on, you’re not on the beach your at Wimbledon.

One of the most common sights at Wimbledon other than tennis balls are panama hats, unfortunately we don’t sell them but we can show you what to wear with them!
We’d suggest a jacket or blazer, preferably a Regatta Jacket paired with a white linen shirt to keep you cool, don’t forget to slip a hanky into the top of the jacket pocket it will add a touch of class & texture to the outfit.

If you want to look sartorial & stylish then we’d suggest that you go for a slim fitting blazer paired with chinos, a button down shirt and a skinny bow tie!

If you’re thinking that the second look is a little too contemporary then go for the summer essential linen suit! This is always a winner at Wimbledon it’ll keep you cool and you’ll have no problems looking suave and smart!

We’d suggest a going for a beige or navy linen suit combined with a polo shirt and shoes; once again you can add a hanky to the jacket to finish the look.

Get The Tinie Tempah Prom Look

If your prom is soon approaching you’ll be rushing around trying to find a suit better than the one your dad or older brother is trying to make you wear, you’ll most likely be worrying that you will look the same as everyone else too. Gone are the times when all the guys at the prom all looked the same, now its acceptable to jazz up your outfit and breakaway from the norm.

Take a look at Tinie Tempah looking good in his black slim fit suit and bow tie. We’ll explain below how to put this cool look together and all for the smart price of £129 and the best bit is the shirt and tie are free!

Firstly you’ll need a sharp slim fitting suit, we’d recommend black but if you want to be individual then electric blue is always an option. Slim narrow lapels are on trend steer clear from wide 70’s lapels that your dad used to wear, they were cool in the 70’s but definitely the wrong side of retro for 2012.

When it comes to the shirt you could go for the classic wing collar or you can go for the Tinie/James Bond look and choose a standard collar shirt (this seems to be the more on trend option at the moment). If your thinking white isn’t your favourable option then don’t be afraid to mix your colours, as long as the shirt and tie colours go together then your fine!

Finally you’ll need a tie or a bow tie to finish the outfit, we’d suggest you stay away from self tie bow ties…you don’t want to be late for the prom, go for a ready tied bow tie! Don’t think that because everyone is wearing bow ties that you have to follow the norm, it’s perfectly acceptable to wear a tie but only the right kind of tie will do!

Diamond Jubilee Guide

As the queen is celebrating 60 years of monarchy there’s cause for celebration up and down the country. With plenty of amazing events taking place we’ve chosen our key two, along with this we’ve put together the outfits you should be wearing!

The Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant.

On Sunday the 3rd of June over 1000 boats will take to the river Thames in preparation for Her Majesty the Queen to take part within the Jubilee Pageant. The event will take place from 2pm to 6pm, vessels of all types will be voyaging down river from Battersea Bridge to Tower Bridge.
This will be one of the largest flotillas to ever be displayed on the river Thames. Don’t miss out on the gun salute just down River of London Bridge!

This will surely draw a large crowd so don’t be late!

The regality of this event means you don’t want to go too under dressed, we’d suggest some jeans and a light colored polo shirt finished with a regatta jacket (it’s bound to get chilly late evening by the river). You can even add a floral or spotted handkerchief if you want to show off!

Epsom Derby

If you want to keep up with the queen then head down to the Epsom Derby, she’ll be attending what’s classed as the greatest flat race in the world, winnings can top up to £1.5 million! We’ve been told tickets have been sold out for the Queens stand but you can still get in the Grandstand, Tattenham and Lonsdale enclosures.

It’s going to be fairly hot so wear light colour’s, avoid black for fear of drawing in the sun. The dress code is more relaxed than Ascot but at no cost should you wear any form of sportswear or ripped denim.

A great outfit for this would be some lightweight linen trousers, breathable cotton shirt and linen jacket it will keep you cool but still keep you looking the part, if it’s too hot the jacket can be removed and if it’s cold in the evenings you can just put it back on! It’s your choice on the tie but to stick with the true British theme we’ve selected a red and blue silk number.

If you’re going to one of the thousands of street parties in Britain then you may want to just add some patriotism to your outfit, we’ve got some excellent little accessories to do just this!

Dress To Impress

Is your lack of sartorial awareness holding you back at work, at a special occasion or during that crucial job interview?

Looking smart and wearing the right outfit can not only give a positive psychological lift but can also help you to project the right impression on your boss, colleagues and friends. Here, Moss, the leading menswear retailer of branded suiting, gives the low down on the top dressing tips to get you noticed.

Top Dressing Tips

1. A two-button suit, cut on a slimmer block and co-ordinated with a flat fronted trouser, is a flattering style for all shapes and sizes. The slim block also gives a sharper, more tailored look.

2. If you prefer wearing a three-button suit use this simple guide, sometimes button the top, always button the second, never button the third.

3. You should always show 1cm of shirt cuff under your jacket sleeve. It’s the difference between looking scruffy and sartorially smart.

4. A good fitting suit will help you stand taller and look more confident. The shoulder of your suit jacket should fit comfortably with yours. Shoulder pads should not protrude beyond your own shoulders otherwise it will make you look like you’re slouching.

5. The suit should never pull around the chest, if your fist can fit between your chest and the fabric, it’s too big.

6. A Windsor knot sits much better with a cut away collar and looks much more professional. It will also keep its shape all day unlike a school boy knot.

7. For a strong sartorial statement at work, wear a pinstripe suit. This means business and gives the impression that You mean business!

8. The length of the trouser should sit on the top of the sole of your shoe, never have shorter trousers.

9. Don’t overfill your pockets. This will ruin the line of your suit and give a tired and dishevelled look to your overall appearance.

10. Be brave and wear colour! Striped and bright coloured shirts are a must for the season. It is the easier and flattering to add a distinctive shirt or tie to lift a stylish suit. But if in doubt go for tone on tone when matching ties with shirts, darker or lighter shades look great against each other.
