How to wear white this winter

Here’s how to make the season’s lightest colours pull their weight in your winter wardrobe.

EMBRACE LIGHTER TONES FOR THE COLDER SEASONS

Words: C. Saramowicz

Often associated with balmy summer days, white isn’t a colour usually seen in the cooler months. However, working white into your winter wardrobe isn’t at difficult as it seems; just a few touches here and there and you can create a neutral toned collection of pieces that works for any occasion.

Whether you’re looking to incorporate white in a subtle way, or going all out with a tonal look, make it work for you with our tips below.

Moss styling - off-white knitted overshirt

The off-white alternative

If you’re not ready to dive into pure brilliant white just yet, an off-white or cream tone is a great alternative. Our knitted overshirt is made from a super soft wool blend and layers well over anything from zip necks to thicker knits depending on the season. Cut to a tailored fit, it offers definition in the arms and chest which allows for a casual look that still feels put together, great for days about town or weekend lunches. Complete the neutral colour palette with a chunky grey cable knit and brown moleskin trousers.

Moss styling - winter white corduroy jacket

The statement piece

If you’re feeling bold, a bright white jacket or coat can really make an impression. Using light colours as a top layer can highlight a more muted outfit, or bring attention to a particular piece of clothing you’re proud of. One way of adding a bit more interest to your white layer is by choosing a textured fabric – our corduroy jacket is crafted from needlecord, a super fine wale of corduroy that makes it lightweight and extra soft to touch. It’s also double breasted, giving it a smarter and more elevated feel. For a casual weekday look, pair with a black mock neck and charcoal flannel trousers to really spotlight the white.

The bold tonal look

Ready to go all in? A tonal outfit, whether casual or formal, always looks put together and intentional. Choose pieces in varying white/cream tones for a multi-dimensional look that gives depth to your outfit. A white mock neck is a great base layer – ours is made from a merino wool blend that is lightweight and super soft of your skin, but will still keep you warm as the weather cools. If you’re going casual, add a pair of drawstring trousers in a stretchy cotton blend. They’re a great versatile piece for casual days in the office or relaxed dinners alike, and pair well with anything from boxy tees to roll necks.

As for the top layer, a taupe gilet adds dimension to the look, keeping you warm and cosy too. Ours is crafted from recycled fibres with midweight padding, offering a comfortable amount of warmth but is lightweight enough to layer on top of.
