Wolf It Up
Since the release of The Wolf of Wall Street last Friday there have been no signs of the hype slowing down. People are flocking to the cinemas to catch a glimpse of the debauched lifestyle of Mr. Jordan Belfort. Some bankers have even organised private viewings, for which they are dressing to the nines with sharp suits and slicked back hair.
Love it or hate it, Jordan Belfort’s self-assurance is reflected in his choice of suit. He isn’t the nicest of men, however, manages to sweet-talk his way through life as a penny trader with an exceptionally sharp look! The Wolf of Wall Street is excessive, and whatever your views the suits of the time were designed and worn to ooze confidence. Belfort is brilliantly portrayed by the immaculately dressed Leonardo Di Caprio.
Curious on how to get the look, here are a few tips;
Overt shoulder pads and a bright tie are a great way to be confidently assertive. You never get a second chance to make a first impression. This could be a potential interview winner!
Moss Bespoke Suit – Made to Measure |
The double breasted suit, although extremely popular for power dressing in the 80’s is now reserved for those with a very particular taste. Although 2 button options were popular on the catwalk in recent seasons, they haven’t (yet!) become mainstream. Be bold and look like Belfort in this made to measure double-breasted chalk stripe suit, from £495 by Moss Bespoke (available in selected stores).
If you’re more reserved than Mr. Belfort, choose a single breasted mid grey option; perfectly versatile and looks great with virtually any colour shirt and accessory combination.
Here are a few similar suits;
Updated with slimmer lines, this Ted Baker tailored fit 2 piece heritage check suit has a great fit and allows you to look relaxed but stay sharp simultaneously.
Above left is a regular fit grey suit in Zegna cloth. Similar to the Ted Baker, it has a more comfortable fit yet allows you to stay sharp. Finally, above right is a Cerruti cloth tailored fit mix and match suit in indigo. As well as looking impeccably smart and sophisticated, this suit highlights the biggest colour trend this year; blue.
Now go and enjoy yourself, but easy on the debauchery. Otherwise, you’ll end up like Mr. Belfort.
