4 steps to your best-ever suit

image_2

It’s easier than you think to create your perfect suit. Custom Made is our personalisation service that lets you get any of our suits made your way for less. No one knows your taste better than you do, so we used our expertise to put together lots of fabric, lining and customisation options and handed the design reins to you. In just four simple steps, we’ll craft you a suit like no other and deliver it in just 30 days. Here’s how:

STEP 1

Pick your fabric. There are 90 to choose from in our swatch book, including bolder colours for a special occasion, luxurious pure wools and classic checks to liven up your day-to-day office-wear. Maybe you’ve seen a fabric you like in-store but it’s not in the fit you like? We’ve marked the suits from across our collections that can be part of Tailor Me – look out for the orange tags on suits in-store.

STEP 2

Next, choose your fit from skinny, tailored and regular. Our skinny fit offers a neat, modern look with narrow-cut shoulders, skinny lapels and a shorter jacket length, along with trousers that are narrow through the leg and hem. For those after a more elegant look, our tailored fit makes use of a natural shoulder line, a nipped-in waist and tapered trouser legs to streamline your silhouette. Finally, our regular fit focuses on classic styling and comfort with additional width across the chest and shoulders, standard lapels and straight-cut trousers for a timeless look.

STEP 3

Once you’ve picked your fit, our Suit Experts will take up to 5 key measurements for your jacket and trousers so we can tweak our standard fit blocks to suit you perfectly. From a slightly shortened leg to a bit more room at the waist, any adjustments are done as part of the making process, so you get a beautifully fitted suit from the start and can skip the post-purchase alterations.

STEP 4

Select your styling options and make your suit uniquely yours. Choose your suit details such as notch or peak lapels, straight or slanted pockets and 1 or 2-button fastenings, then let your personality shine through with a bold lining, contrast stitching and even the option of an embroidered monogram inside your jacket.

That’s it. We’ll send your design to our team of makers who’ll craft your new suit just the way you like it. All ready to collect from your chosen store in just 30 days and an extra £100 on the base price.

Tame the trends

ss17

Refined tailoring is always in style, but this season traditional office wear gets a bold, new update. From exaggerated checks to new grained fabrics and strong colours, there’s a lot to catch your attention in SS17. Trends don’t have to be intimidating, though – it’s easier than you think to go beyond what’s expected. Here’s how to dress to turn heads in the new season:

TEXTURED TERRITORY

Suit surfaces move into new territory for SS17, with textured finishes giving daytime tailoring a tactile appeal. This Moss 1851 silver grey suit is a great example of how easy this trend is to work into your weekday looks. Made from pure wool, its subtle pin dot design is visible only at close quarters and from further away simply gives the fabric a granular look. On-trend but absolutely wearable, it turns the standard grey suit into something altogether more interesting.

Layer your textures by pairing your pin dot suit with a softly textured shirt, like this pure cotton chambray version, and round off the look with a touchable silk tie in a bold cross pattern.

PATTERN PLAY

This season geometric patterns such as checks are key, and are now bolder and delivered in new, grainy textures. The windowpane check of this Moss 1851 hopsack jacket is spun in neutral shades of brown for an optic twist against the fibrous feel of its navy hopsack weave. It’ll pair beautifully with indigo denim but to truly master the look, we suggest wearing the full 3-piece suit.

If you’re going this bold with your suit, you may as well demand full attention by playing up its pattern with a graphic shirt. Just make sure you pick one in similar hues – like this slim fit shirt in a micro dash print – to make sure your statement look is a stylish one too. A knitted silk tie – again in a similar hue – will add a luxurious finish to the coarser texture of the hopsack wool.

BLACK, WHITE AND GREY

Tame two trends in one stroke with a bold Prince of Wales check suit. With its amplified puppytooth design in black, grey and white, it ticks off both the trend for monochrome and geometric patterns, giving a very traditional print a modern rework. Complement its laser-sharp fit and impactful pattern with an extra slim fit white shirt and a minimalist skinny black tie.

How to get back on track after the New Year

expert-james

The festivities are well and truly over for another year and you’re probably feeling a bit sluggish as you head into 2017. Rather than lofty new year’s health resolutions that are difficult to stick to, we asked wellbeing expert James Tickner to give us some simple tips that you can fit into your week to help you get back on track for January.

BREATHE DEEP

Try to perform 2 minutes of deep breathing a day, inhaling fully, pausing, then exhaling and repeating. Saturating the body with oxygen keeps the immune system high and the body fully nourished and in a healthy alkaline state, which will bring energy and vitality

DRINK YOUR VITS

Tuck into green smoothies and juices – the anti-oxidants and phytonutrients will keep the immune system strong and energised when there’s a lack of vitamin D. Reds juices with berries are also brilliant for this.

Drink ginger tea to raise immunity, keep the body antiseptic and ward off any unwanted bacteria entering the system. Boil a thumb-sized piece of ginger in water for 15-20 minutes and enjoy with lemon and honey.

MIX UP YOUR WORKOUT

You know you need to exercise regularly but make sure you’re also performing a combination of strength and endurance work. It’s important to keep the nervous system stimulated with resistance work, but also get the cardiovascular system working with aerobic fitness for the wealth of positive cellular activity this brings to strengthen the system and keep immunity high.

HIT THE SAUNA

Try to get to a sauna if possible and follow it with a cold shower to boost the immune system and raise core body temperature.

How to go back to work in style

back-to-work

You’ve had your fill of turkey and have just about recovered from New Year’s Eve, but now it’s time to go back to work. If you’ve got today off, we suggest using the time you’ll probably spend on the sofa to plan an outfit for tomorrow that’ll look like you mean business. Nobody has to know you’re still in holiday mode.

Let’s start with the basics. A well-cut grey suit is a failsafe in your working week wardrobe and its familiarity will give you a welcome bit of reassurance as you gear yourself up for your first week back. Pick one in a tailored fit such as Moss 1851 . Cut with a natural shoulder line and a narrower waist, it’ll streamline your silhouette even if you did clear the house out of mince pies last week. The 2-piece suit will always look sharp but adding a waistcoat will give you two benefits. Firstly, it’ll make you look particularly pulled-together but it’ll also add an extra layer of warmth until the office heating kicks back in after the holidays.

Grey will go with any colour so if you’re feeling optimistic, plump for a shirt in an uplifting shade. Feeling like you need a bit of comfort to ease you back into work? If your office dress code allows it, try layering something smart but snug like a roll neck merino jumper under your suit jacket. Our advice is to stick to the classics and pair your suit with a crisp white shirt and an elegant blue tie. Finish your look off with polished shoes and the new pair of socks that you’ve inevitably received and you’re good to go.
