The Journey to Become the Prom King

This blog piece was guest written by William Njobvu, digital editor of IDGAF Magazine & contributor to Menswear Style.

Prom season has arrived and school is out, it is time to prepare your trendy three piece suits with Moss Bros. With the exclusive prom deals that are being offered, you cannot go wrong. Your prom outfit must depict maturity, sophistication yet rebellion at the same time. Therefore, to ensure that you go home with the prom king crown, your outfit must stand out.

If you are completely indecisive of what to wear, do not worry as Moss Bros are offering 3 piece suits with free shirts and ties. Buying a full suit may reduce your stress levels. However, as Moss Bros are offering a range of quality pieces, hence why I would advise you to take advantage of this and get creative.

Let’s take you through a mix and match prom styling session which will get all of the ladies’ heads turning.

Black and white is the common prom colour theme, 80% of your male peers will most probably turn up in black and white. This colour theme is not an issue, however in order to make your outfit a bit more exciting, you will need to add in a bit of colour. This is where you can use your tie and shirt to the best of your advantage.

Moss Bros are selling refined slim fit shirts from £15 only, some of my favourite colours are the navy blue, red, wine and plum as these are masculine yet rebellious colours that will add a hint of flavour to your attire, whilst allowing you to look like the mature young man you are.

Tie or bow tie?  This has been an evolving argument when it comes to prom, but the bow tie will always win. Bow ties represent the British, royal and sophisticated male, this is the image you want for your prom night.  Feel like a king, even if it’s just for one night and purchase an excellent bow tie from Moss Bros. Luckily, you can get a bow tie for as cheap as £10, my personal favourite is the Venuto 21 Wine Skinny Check bow tie, as it will give your outfit preppy characteristics.

Keep your royal and rebellious look consistent and buy Moss Bros’s Black Cummberbund. It is 100% polyester with an adjustable strap, allowing you to feel comfortable and exclusive on your big night. Pocket Squares are also a must, consume the complete British young gentleman look and buy yours for only £7 from Moss Bros. My personal favourite is the Ventuno 21 Edge Border Pocket Handkerchief.

Braces go hand in hand with all of the accessories recommended above, although if you do decide to wear a shirt with colour, it would be best to wear black or white braces. Whereas, if you decide to wear a white shirt, have a look at Moss Bros’s Clip-On red braces, and you’re attire will not fail.

Finally, your shoes must correlate with the rest of your outfit, your look must be consistent throughout, Brogues will bring you this continuity. At the moment there are many on sale at Moss Bros, so think fast. Casually, I would recommend the Blazer Tan Oxford Brogues, but for this occasion, the Peter Werth Leather Brown Brogues or the all black Oxford Brogues are your best bet.

My final word of advice is to buy a blazer and trousers that match, and get creative with the rest, and I promise you, you’ll walk home with the prom king title. Have a look through www.moss.co.uk/proms and get creative, good luck.

Royal Ascot Etiquette Guide

Royal Ascot. Yes Royal. The World’s most famous race meeting. It’s steeped in history, founded in 1711, Royal Ascot is the most prestigious event in the racing calendar. Racing history is created here. Annual prize money for the royal meeting will be in an excess of £5 million, talk about a decent pay off.

The Sartorial stakes are also high, so you don’t want to look out of place. Don’t worry too much though, we’re here to help.

It’s tradition to follow the Royal Ascot dress code. If you’re a patron of Ascot’s royal enclosure then you must have a morning suit. Our Royal Ascot Hire collection has been specially designed to meet the dress code of this prestigious event, so you can relax and enjoy yourself knowing you’ve complied with the strict attire regulations. We have 6 top hat and tails packages; you can opt for different styles including a classic style, peacock style or our very own Royal Ascot style.

Here are some of our favourites;

Now, to finish the look. Dramatic headgear isn’t just for the ladies. Get a top hat or you’ll stick out like a sore thumb. When Edward VII saw Lord Harris in a brown bowler hat he loudly enquired, “Goin’ rattin’, Harris?”. So, just remember it’s the royal enclosure and gentlemen are required to wear a top hat at all times.

If you’re in public enclosures morning suits are still extrmely popular, but aren’t essential. So here are a few other suits that will help you fit in and look the part;

Now go get the beers in, but be careful with your suit.

A Football Manager

As we near the end of an exciting season of football, we take a look at some of the guys in charge.
A football manager doesn’t have it easy. He’s constantly under pressure, constantly expected to achieve and constantly in doubt of his job. This could explain some of the hideous outfits we see. Too worried about the job (which is a good thing) and not too worried about what they’re wearing. As we’re a suit company, we like a manager that ticks both boxes.
Some managers have taken to wearing a formal jacket over the top of a tracksuit jacket. If you’re doing this, just stop, you look like an idiot. Apart from this, most managers fall into one of two categories; Track suit or Proper suit.
We’ve narrowed it down to our top 5 best dressed football managers, in proper suits, of course.
In 5th is Pep Guardiola. Always very sharp looking but adds his own casual touch here and there.  It doesn’t always work, but fix that tie Pep and you might pip 1st.

In 4th we have Roberto Mancini. Mancini’s look is elegant, like his Italian nature. This is reflected in the way he knots his Man city scarf with true Italian style.  Otherwise, you really can’t fault him.  Well done, Roberto. Shame about the city job.

In 3rd we have Jose Mourinho. Now, Jose is a controversial one. He is a rule breaker and does wear tracksuit jackets with blazers. But, like some say he’s the special one and does what he wants. Jose if you stop this you could make 1st.

 In 2nd is Joachim Low. Joachim is known for his touchline fashion (not forgetting his nose picking), flawless style and exquisite taste, Jaochim we like your style.

In 1st we have the Italian manager Cesare Prandelli. What a man. Just look at this picture;

So, there you have it, the Italians have the style. Let’s see which managers look best and go the furthest at this summer’s all-important tournament.
