This with that: boots and trousers

Not sure which boots are right for your favourite trousers? We can help.

THE BEST BOOTS TO PAIR WITH YOUR FAVOURITE TROUSERS

Words: T. MacInnis

You can have loads of pieces in your wardrobe that fit well and you love to wear, but that’s only half the battle. The other (and arguably harder) half is figuring out how to put it all together. From mixing colours and prints to finding the right proportions, pairing things isn’t always straightforward.

This can be the case with finding the right boots for your trousers. Whether you’re wearing suit trousers, chinos or joggers, trousers can make or break your boot choice. And, the colour or texture of each can also be at odds, or work really well. Read on to find out which boots typically work with which trousers.

Chelsea boot with flannel trousers

The great thing about a Chelsea boot is its versatility. A classic piece of smart casual footwear, it can see you through work days and evening events alike, and always adds a considered touch to an outfit. Crafted from a luxuriously soft suede, our granite Chelsea boots are lightweight and perfect for all-day wear. For the cooler season, combine with a pair of tonal flannel trousers; with their narrow tops, the boots can easily tuck under the slim legs and show off the elasticated detailing, while the chestnut colour palette is super seasonal.

Alternatively, swap the chestnut flannel for a grey and finish with a cream peacoat – the suede texture of the Chelsea boot contrasts the brushed wool, while the coat rounds off the smart casual aesthetic.

Brown hiking boots with cord trousers

Hiking boots aren’t just for weekend walks – our leather boots are smart enough to pair with tailored trousers or chinos alike. Crafted from rich brown leather with a burnished finish, they’re fur lined to keep you extra cosy this winter. To contrast, pair with blonde corduroy trousers – the medium wale cord will give your outfit some dimension and the drawstring waist adds a level of stretch and comfort. Combine with a winter white roll neck and layer with the matching cord jacket for a tonal look that feels on-trend for 2023.

Brown hiking boots with suits

Who said you can’t wear hiking boots with suiting? If you want to tone down a smart look, add a pair of boots to a tailored trouser like our slim fit denim. The silhouette of the boot adds a utilitarian feel to the suit and the brown warms up the overall look in way that black or white can’t. Again, just make sure the hem of your trousers sits comfortable over the top of the boot.

New coats for this winter’s outerwear investment

It’s probably your biggest buy of the season, so make this winter’s coat a great one.

WINTER COATS THAT WILL NEVER GO OUT OF STYLE

Words: C. Saramowicz

A good coat is a solid investment that will see you through many seasons. Knowing our temperamental British weather, protection against the elements is essential to keep you warm, cosy and dry this winter.

Whether you’re looking for something smart for the commute or need something a bit weightier, we’ve got all the coats you need for whatever you’ve got going on.

Moss navy flannel long puffer coat

Flannel puffer

Flannel is a known winter staple – see our article about why flannel is the fabric of the season here – and our winter puffer proves why. Wadded with insulating padding that traps pockets of warm air, it will keep the wind and rain out and keep you cosy too. Pair with a chunky cable knit and a pair of hiking boots for weekend walks in the country (or the city).

Versatility is the overcoat’s forte, and our chestnut coloured number is the perfect shade for the season. Made from warm wool blend with a dash of cashmere, it has a beautifully brushed finish which has a great hand-feel and adds a touch of luxury to your look. Cut to a tailored fit, it works well with suiting or more casual looks alike – pair with a striped two piece and add a merino roll neck for easy elegance.

Ecru peacoat

Crafted from a heavy twill, our ecru peacoat is destined to protect you against the cold this season. Textured fabric and tortoiseshell buttons are a notable addition, while the large lapels can be turned up if the wind begins to bite. HERE ARE THE TOP-TIER FABRICS WE’VE FOCUSED ON THIS SEASON

Words: L. Thorpe

Every season we work harder to bring you the everyday wardrobe staples you need, created with our tailoring know-how and decades-long commitment to quality. From super-soft worker joggers to warm coats, to the jackets and suits we’re known for, we’re bringing you all the pieces to round out your wardrobe in winter fabrics you’ll love to. Read on to learn more about our favourite winter fabrics.

Moss sage flannel suit

Flannel

Flannel, with its brushed finish and breathable warmth, is a great option for winterwear. From suits to shackets to puffers, it’s a durable, wearable material that’ll hold its shape over time – plus it’s lightweight and comfy to wear.

This season at Moss, you’ll find our go-to flannel suits and shirts in updated, on-trend colours. Our sage suit is crafted from the finest Italian wool and cut to a tailored fit, making it a great choice for winter weddings. Worn as separates or together, it’ll keep you warm on cooler days without compromising on smart.

You’ll also find our new favourite worker joggers in updated tones too, as well as a navy flannel gilet that will see you through the commute as well as office days. No matter the flannel piece you choose this season, you’ll love layering it or wearing it on its own on slightly warmer days.

Moss tailored fit olive corduroy double breasted suit

Corduroy

Cord is another classic fabric that’s been reworked to fit with this season’s style. It may be comfortable and easy to wear, but it has a reputation for being a bit outdated.

Thankfully, our contemporary cord pieces are anything but. Cut in tailored and slim fits, our corduroy suits come in plenty of different colours and various cord weights that work well for every occasion. Our olive green cord suit is a particular favourite, crafted from a fine needlecord to sculpt the frame, and features a double breasted closure for a smarter feel. It also comes in a season-appropriate red colour, which works great as separates or as a suit.

You can still go casual with cord by going for an overshirt – our vicuna shirt comes in a sophisticated and autumnal chestnut tone – or pairing some cord trousers with a jumper or t-shirt. The ribbed texture makes cord a strong fabric that lasts, ensuring it’s great for everyday wear

Wool

From woolly coats that add both warmth and refinement to an outfit, to comfortable jumpers that are smart enough to wear for any occasion, wool is a winter must-have.

There’s a reason it has been a fabric of choice for centuries – it’s practical, warm and looks good in every setting. Plus it comes from a natural source and comes in lots of different finishes, from fine knit cashmere jumpers through to pure wool suits. Add some texture to your outfit with a chunky knit, choose to layer it up in a fine knit merino jumper, or go head to toe wool in a luxurious pinstripe wool suit. Our camel brushed overcoat does wonders as a top layer – made from 100% wool in a brushed finish, it can easily work as an extension of your suiting, but can uplift a casual outfit too.

Moss slim brown tweed suit

Tweed

You might see tweed as a rather traditional choice of fabric. And while that may often be the case, tweed doesn’t have to feel old fashioned. Our tweed suits offer timeless elegance, whether you’re wearing them somewhere formal or as part of a more casual look. Tweed has a slightly rustic, heritage feel that makes it good for dressing up or down – and it’s not just for the countryside.

If you’re wearing tweed to a winter wedding, go for a macro herringbone weave like our slim fit brown tweed suit. It feels slightly more contemporary than a larger weave, and can be worn as a three piece, two piece or as separates. If you’re going for a rustic feel, accessorise with a tweed baker boy cap. For more casual looks, tweed trousers go particularly well with chunky knitwear and boots, so if you want to add some texture into your outfit, tweed is the way to go. It has a coarser, more rugged feel that’s warm and cosy, and works especially well in the colder months.

Moss brown moleskin overshirt

Moleskin

Soft, velvety and luxurious, moleskin is also known for being hardwearing and great for everyday wear. It also drapes really well, making it a tailoring favourite too.

Beyond its durability, moleskin can elevate almost any outfit. From tailored moleskin trousers through to shirts and shackets, it’s cosy, soft to the touch and feels great against your skin. Our moleskin overshirt is crafted from 100% cotton and has a sateen effect, offering a super-soft hand feel that makes it a great winter layering piece.

Moss’ gift guide

This year is about giving thoughtfully, and we’ve got all the gifts you need to do so.

GIVE THOUGHTFULLY THIS SEASON

Sure, it’s the thought that counts, but give thoughtfully and it’ll mean so much more.

This year, it’s about the personalities in your life – their hobbies, their wants and their needs. It’s about what they’ve always wanted, and what they didn’t know they needed. Whether they’ve caught the travel bug and are going places this year, or are just looking for something soft to hunker down in this winter, we’ve got something for everyone.

This year, we’ve thought about every detail so it’s easier than ever for you to give thoughtfully.

Moss gifting - leather briefcase

Refined daily wear his colleagues will covet

Make their office return just that little bit smoother with pieces that’ll make the working week a pleasure. A briefcase crafted from the softest sustainable leather, to hold all that’s important. An Oxford shirt, with a washed finish that gives the lived-in comfort of an old favourite. A cosy merino zip neck that’s lightweight and super soft on the skin, and a pair of cashmere socks, mercerised to make them extra smooth.

Moss gifting - cable knit jumper

Soft scarves, chunky knits and plenty of cashmere for hunkering down in

Silky, knitted, fleecy or ribbed – whatever the texture, these pieces are designed to feel good in their hands. A cable roll neck, crafted from the softest lambswool blend that is a joy to wear (and run their hands over); a velvety cashmere and wool blend scarf that their neck will thank you for, and a matching pair of cashmere socks that will feel like they’re walking on clouds; and a moleskin overshirt, crafted from 100% Italian cotton, for weekend walks that need a bit of suede-like softness.

Moss gifting - navy checked brushed overshirt

Bold tones and sundry of textures to get him noticed (just as he likes it)

Give them something that’ll make sure they get all the right attention. A brushed overshirt with shots of acid green yarn amplifies plaid for limelight lovers; a chunky quarter zip neck with an oversized cable knit; cotton slub socks worth rolling their trousers up for; and an scaled-up scarf in acid green recycled fibres for impactful accessorising.

Moss gifting - taupe heavyweight t-shirt

Laid-back looks for the suit-and-tie shy

Suits just aren’t their style, but that doesn’t stop them looking (and feeling) the part. Everyday essentials aren’t so basic when they’re crafted from the finest fabrics – a heavyweight t-shirt with a peached finish, that drapes just-so and can be styled thousands of ways; a baseball cap made from brushed wool that just completes an outfit; a wool-blend skipper jumper that’s just the right amount of slouchy for relaxed looks; and a grained leather backpack for those casual weekend strolls.

Moss gifting - chocolate suede shearling gloves

Thought-through essentials he’ll wonder how he survived without

No more cold hands or loose change – these pieces will make sure they have everything they need for the new year, even if they don’t know it yet. A pair of leather gloves, lined with shearling for next-level warmth; a leather washbag to keep their wandering toothbrush at bay; a business belt to remedy their loose trouser predicament; and a leather wallet for all the misplaced cash and cards.

Moss gifting - chestnut brushed wool baseball cap

Transit-friendly gifts to help him reach his travelling goals

Travelling is on his bucket list and these pieces will get him there. A chestnut baseball cap crafted from soft brushed wool, to protect from the everchanging elements; a grained leather holdall to elevate his item storage; a vicuna cord overshirt, made from the finest needlecord, to wear over tees or under coats for maximum layer-ability; and a sophisticated merino zip neck that is breathable and light enough for walking through the city – and beyond.

Moss gifting - winter white cashmere scarf

Italian fabrics and premium knits when understated elegance is his forte

Soft, rich fabrics, clean lines and neutral palettes exude refinement, and that’s right up their street. 100% premium cotton t-shirts for when anything else just won’t do; a cashmere crew neck with an extra nice handfeel, and a matching sock because their feet deserve to indulge too; and a cashmere and wool scarf that couldn’t be any softer if it tried.

Treat their feet with a sock gift box you’ve curated

With tones and textures this good, socks are more than just a last-minute offering; choose any three socks and have them packaged up in a beautiful gift box, ready to gift to the person you love.

Four new knitwear pieces you need

Workday, weekday, anyday-wools.
moss - ecru chunky quarter zip jumper

WORKDAY, WEEKDAY, ANY-DAY WOOLS

Words: C. Stewart

Like summer’s tees, a good selection of knits in your wardrobe will form the building blocks of all sorts of looks, all year long. And they’re especially good worn instead of a shirt to get that just-right-for-now balance of relaxed and refined.

We’ve spun our knits in premium, natural yarns that give warmth without being weighty and in styles from chunky to streamlined to answer all your seasonal knitwear needs.

moss - navy knitted zip cardigan

Cardigans

The cardigan adds a relaxed but refined feel to any outfit – particularly if it’s spun with an extra-fine fibre like lambswool or merino, like ours is. It’s a layering hard-hitter too, looking great worn over a boxy tee with a crisp pair of trousers on warmer days, as well as under a jacket if the temperature drops.

moss - light grey cashmere crew neck jumper

Crew neck jumpers

Nothing adds a hit of style and refinement to an autumn look quite like a crew neck jumper. Wear one tucked into a pair of chinos or moleskin trousers for easygoing refinement. Ours are made from merino or a super soft cashmere blend, like this one, making it a layering essential and keeping you extra warm under a puffer or gilet well into winter.

moss - camel melange relaxed fit skipper jumper

Skipper collar jumper

For out and about at the weekend or just kicking back at home, the skipper jumper is unmatched as a leisurely basic. Go for one crafted from a wool blend and clean lines to flex between lounging and styled-up looks with ease; we’ve made this particular one with just the right amount of slouch for a relaxed look. Another great layering piece, wear over a soft white shirt for relaxed elegance or pair with chinos and a pair of polished boots to elevate the look.

moss - grey chunky cable roll neck jumper

Chunky knitted jumpers

If that autumnal chill is getting to you and you want something that’s as cosy as possible, look to a chunky cable knit. Its thick knit and alpaca wool blend mean ultimate warmth, and the roll neck makes it a bit smarter (and cosier) than your average chunky jumper. Layer it under a winter coat or a gilet when it gets really chilly.

CREATE YOUR OWN PIECES FOR PARTY SEASON

Words: C. Saramowicz

Party season is fast approaching, and what better way to stand out from the crowd than with a custom-made suit, designed just for you? You may think that custom made tailoring is reserved for weddings, but creating personalised pieces for special occasions beyond the altar can really uplift your wardrobe, and help you feel more confident too.

How about a made-for-you tux that makes you feel like a million bucks the minute you put it on? Or a custom suit trouser, tailored to your body so that it fits like a glove? It can all be yours with Custom Made.

Moss details for Custom Made

The right fabric for the right event

Start your custom partywear journey by picking your fabric. There’s plenty to choose from, most of which come from some of the world’s best mills. If black-tie events are in your calendar, try a custom tux made from Italian fabric, sculpted to your frame and finished with your name monogrammed on the inside pocket. Going to a winter wedding? Why not go for a rustic tweed in sage or taupe, or a soft flannel in sky blue. You don’t have to go for a full suit – create your favourite ever blazer and get it tailored just right, so you can wear it again and again for whatever event comes your way.

If you’re hesitant to pick a fabric straight away, order some samples and get a feel for the weight and texture before you commit.

Once you’ve chosen your fabric, you’ll be measured by one of our suit specialist to ensure your pieces are tailored exclusively to you. This means your trousers will sit perfectly on your waist, while the length of your jacket sleeves will be ideal for your height and body type. Custom Made ensures every detail is designed with you in mind.

Moss custom made suit details

Tailor every detail

Once you’ve been measured, it’s time for the details.

With Custom Made, every detail matters – right down to the buttonhole. We’ll make sure every single part of your custom garment has your stamp on it. Prefer a waist adjuster on the side of your tailored trouser? Like your buttons to be a different colour? Browse through our range of custom options and make this party season one to remember.

You can even customise your lapels, depending on the occasion. If you’re attending a black-tie event, a satin finish will add a luxurious touch to your look. Prefer something a bit less formal but still elevated? A shawl collar is a thinner and more rounded lapel that looks great on tuxes and dinner jackets alike.

As for trousers, everything from the pockets to the stitching is customisable. Choose from tailored, slim or regular fit, go for belt loops or side adjusters and add turn ups if you want an extra touch. Whether it’s a Christmas party or an anniversary dinner, you can design your dream garment and wear it with pride.

No matter the occasion, Custom Made will see you through party season with looks created just for you. Get started now, and we’ll have your outfit ready for you in just 28 days.

The history of suit hire

Everything you need to know about hiring a suit, this way.
Moss - suit hire

HERE’S HOW SUIT HIRE ALL BEGAN

Words: L. Thorpe

While the suit’s been synonymous with style ever since Beau Brummel – thought to be one of the first ever menswear “influencers” – the concept of suit hire is probably newer than you think.

Moss were one of the early pioneers of suit hire in the UK, making on-trend, sophisticated suits available to everyone. And we’re still doing so today – dressing individuals for all types of special occasions, be it galas, weddings or races.

Moss weddings - Man in a camel tan suit

When did suit hire start?

The idea of formal attire dates back centuries. In the 19th century, elevated suiting was only reserved for those who could afford it; that is, the upper classes who frequently attended banquets and balls. Tuxedos and tails were particularly popular up until men’s fashion saw the rise of the lounge suit, a more relaxed alternative to the formal tailcoat. As social events and occasions required different levels of formality, owning multiple suits became impractical for most individuals.

This gave rise to the idea of hiring suits for specific events, making fashion accessible and affordable.

The earliest known suit hire services started out in the early 20th century, when Moss Bros was born. This new service, run by brother Alfred and George Moss, catered to people who needed formal attire for weddings, events and other special occasions. The availability of suit hire gave people the opportunity to wear stylish, well-fitted suits without the expense of purchasing and maintaining them. It also helped to establish formal dress codes for different events.

Suit hire specialists

As the idea of suit hire gained popularity, businesses specialising in this service started to flourish. These suit hire specialists offered a wide range of suits in various styles, colours and sizes to accommodate different tastes and preferences.

Modern suit hire

Right now, suit hire’s as popular as ever, especially for formal events with a black tie dress code or special occasions like weddings and awards ceremonies. It’s easy to hire a suit for any type of event – if you need some ideas on what occasions may call for suit hire, read our piece on when you should hire a suit.

With Moss, you can hire a suit online and have it delivered to your door or any of our locations around the UK. You can also book an appointment and head into any of our stores to get measured and hire a suit that’s sized perfectly for you. Our suit experts can help you with any questions you might have and can show you samples, styles and fabrics to get something that works with your personal style. It also gives you the chance to try different looks on in real life if you’re not quite sure of what you’re after.

If you’re trying to suit up a group of people for an event, our group hire option takes the stress out of finding a suit that works for everyone. Whether you’re dressing your wedding party or want to match with your friends at prom, it really couldn’t be easier to hire a suit for whatever you’ve got planned.

If sustainability is important for you, renting a suit can be a more suitable option for wearing trending suit styles, extending both their lifecycle and your wardrobe choices. If you don’t wear suits that often, hire can be a more eco-conscious choice than buying new suits that eventually just sit in the wardrobe.

Wondering about the process of hiring a suit? Start by checking out our suit hire collection at Moss.

How to wear white this winter

Here’s how to make the season’s lightest colours pull their weight in your winter wardrobe.

EMBRACE LIGHTER TONES FOR THE COLDER SEASONS

Words: C. Saramowicz

Often associated with balmy summer days, white isn’t a colour usually seen in the cooler months. However, working white into your winter wardrobe isn’t at difficult as it seems; just a few touches here and there and you can create a neutral toned collection of pieces that works for any occasion.

Whether you’re looking to incorporate white in a subtle way, or going all out with a tonal look, make it work for you with our tips below.

Moss styling - off-white knitted overshirt

The off-white alternative

If you’re not ready to dive into pure brilliant white just yet, an off-white or cream tone is a great alternative. Our knitted overshirt is made from a super soft wool blend and layers well over anything from zip necks to thicker knits depending on the season. Cut to a tailored fit, it offers definition in the arms and chest which allows for a casual look that still feels put together, great for days about town or weekend lunches. Complete the neutral colour palette with a chunky grey cable knit and brown moleskin trousers.

Moss styling - winter white corduroy jacket

The statement piece

If you’re feeling bold, a bright white jacket or coat can really make an impression. Using light colours as a top layer can highlight a more muted outfit, or bring attention to a particular piece of clothing you’re proud of. One way of adding a bit more interest to your white layer is by choosing a textured fabric – our corduroy jacket is crafted from needlecord, a super fine wale of corduroy that makes it lightweight and extra soft to touch. It’s also double breasted, giving it a smarter and more elevated feel. For a casual weekday look, pair with a black mock neck and charcoal flannel trousers to really spotlight the white.

The bold tonal look

Ready to go all in? A tonal outfit, whether casual or formal, always looks put together and intentional. Choose pieces in varying white/cream tones for a multi-dimensional look that gives depth to your outfit. A white mock neck is a great base layer – ours is made from a merino wool blend that is lightweight and super soft of your skin, but will still keep you warm as the weather cools. If you’re going casual, add a pair of drawstring trousers in a stretchy cotton blend. They’re a great versatile piece for casual days in the office or relaxed dinners alike, and pair well with anything from boxy tees to roll necks.

As for the top layer, a taupe gilet adds dimension to the look, keeping you warm and cosy too. Ours is crafted from recycled fibres with midweight padding, offering a comfortable amount of warmth but is lightweight enough to layer on top of.

Moss’ guide to Fenchurch Street style

OUR GUIDE TO LONDON’S FENCHURCH STREET

Words: L. Thorpe

We’ve opened a brand-new store in Fenchurch Street where you can buy menswear, get fitted for a business suit, pick up any accessories you need, hire a suit or try something Custom Made. All in one place that’s handy for work or fun in the City.

Whether you’re starting out in your finance career, visiting London or exploring the borough in a bit more detail, here’s what you need to know about this buzzing area of London.

What’s going on in Fenchurch Street?

Located in the borough of Aldgate, Fenchurch Street is best known as part of London’s bustling financial district, with plenty of offices and headquarters of global businesses located there. That means sharp dressing, amazing restaurants and some of the tallest buildings in the capital, including The Leadenhall Building and The Shard, just across the river.

Located right in the heart of London and in one of the oldest inhabited parts of the city, there are plenty of places to shop – including our Moss Fenchurch Street location, of course – and enjoy around Fenchurch.

Man in paisley Italian silk tie

Things to do around Fenchurch Street

Just a 5 minute walk away from the station is the fantastic Sky Garden. Here you’ll get a birds-eye view of some of London’s most famous landmarks. There are two restaurants, London’s highest public garden, bars and events happening throughout the week. You can pick up free tickets to the garden or make a reservation for the restaurant too.

DINING OUT IN THE CITY

For fancy restaurants and fine dining in the area check out 14 Hills, Blacklock City or Nobu London Shoreditch. All three are great locations for a special occasion, an amazing date night or wining and dining your favourite clients. Angler, Coq d’Argent and The Ivy City Garden all come highly recommended too.

Looking for something lower key? Fenchurch Street Market’s just outside the station, serving food from around the world every Tuesday to Friday. Leadenhall Market is another great location, open 24 hours a day seven days a week. Whether you’re grabbing a work lunch, meeting friends or just passing through, you’ll find plenty on offer.

HEADING FOR DRINKS

One thing you’re spoiled for in the City are rooftop bars and spots with fantastic views. PocketSquare, Madison and Savage Garden all have great drinks and scenery that’ll be sure to impress whether you’re heading there with a friend or a date, or just catching up with colleagues after work.

Take off your tie, roll your sleeves and unbutton that jacket to take yourself from day to night in the City.

THE BEST OF THE REST

Want to enjoy some of London’s biggest tourist attractions? Just 10 minutes’ walk from Fenchurch Street Station you’ll find Tower Bridge and The Tower of London. The Barbican and The Shard aren’t far either, so if you want to enjoy some culture, fine dining and great views of the city, you’ll find them in this area.

Man in paisley Italian silk tie

How to get to Fenchurch Street

Fenchurch Street doesn’t have its own London Underground Station, but it’s close to Tower Hill and Tower Gateway which run on the Circle and DLR lines. There’s an overground service that goes to Fenchurch Street with entrances on Fenchurch Place and Cooper’s Row. Fenchurch Street is in central London Travelcard Zone 1, with plenty of bus services heading to the area.

If you’re commuting in, our performance suits should be on your radar – they’re harder wearing, crease and stain resistant, water repellent and have more stretch to the fabric, offering a more comforable journey from A to B.

Staying in style in the city

Our research found that London is one of the most fashionable cities when it comes to menswear, and Fenchurch Street is no different. You’ll probably find more well-dressed men in smart suits than anywhere else in the City.

If you’re starting work in the City and want to smarten up your work wardrobe, you can’t go wrong with a tailored fit black suit. It’s easy to style (go extra smart with a tie, shirt and some classic Oxfords) and will always make you feel on form.

Like most of our stores in the City, dresswear and staple suits are big news in Fenchurch Street – it’s all about impeccable suiting and dresswear for events, meetings and more formal workplace settings. Our performance suits in classic colours are popular choices in this area.

Man in paisley Italian silk tie

However, there are a few surprises that give a nod to a strong sense of personal style in this area of London. Our red boucle coat is crafted in a rich, deep red that works well with tonal tailoring and black knitwear. Alternatively, our tailored fit sage flannel suit features an elegant muted green tone, a great way to add colour to your outfit if you’re initially hesitant.

For some style inspiration on how some of the most successful men in the world are dressing, check out our guide to what the world’s billionaire business owners are wearing. You may be surprised to know it isn’t always a suit!

Looking for something a little different that’ll still keep you looking smart for your city job? Try out some different fabrics, fits and patterns like this tailored fit boucle tweed suit. It’s smart enough to wear as a business suit, but can easily be separated out and worn just as a blazer with more casual styling.

If you’re wanting to go even smarter with your suit choices, why not invest in a Custom Made suit to craft one that’s tailored to you – all without spending a City salary. If you haven’t quite found your signature style yet, suit hire’s a great way to get a feel for what works for you too. Our suit shop in Fenchurch Street has everything you need for city style.

OUTERWEAR MADE FOR THE BRITISH WINTER

Words: C. Saramowicz

Coats don’t just have to be a winter warmer; they can add a touch of colour, texture or layer of sophistication, or complete an outfit altogether. However, living in Britain means being prepared for whatever weather comes your way, so having a collection of weather-appropriate outerwear is a necessity. As we head into the colder months and the rain clouds draw in, it’s time to update your coat collection and prevent the weather from catching you off-guard.

Moss double face epsom in camel

When it begins to cool

When autumn sets in, you need something that can get you through the crisp sunny days, and the ones when the cold really bites. Our double face Epsom is crafted from a warm wool blend that contains a small amount of cashmere, resulting in a super soft handfeel that feels great to wear. Tailored to your body, it offers a smart extension of your suiting, making you look and feel put together.

An overcoat like our Epsom is a no brainer – versatile and elegant, it can smarten up a casual weekend outfit or complement your workwear. It also works well over thick cable knits or thinner roll necks alike, making layering throughout the season simple.

Moss navy wadded jacket

When the wind bites

The British wind can be rather harsh in the colder months, so it’s important to pick something that’s truly gust-proof. The lightweight wadding on our navy wadded jacket really does the job, all without adding too much bulk. Crafted from 100% recycled fabrics, it has the appearance of an overshirt which adds a casual touch, yet it warms like a jacket which is great for cold winter morning commutes. Layer over anything from a neat Oxford to a merino polo neck and chinos.

Moss navy raincoat

When the rain hits

Looking smart and sophisticated in a downpour isn’t easy; our navy raincoat will see you through those endlessly wet days without sacrificing your look. Cut to a tailored fit, it layers easily over suiting and casualwear alike, while still maintaining a sharp silhouette. Though it’s water repellent, the coat is rich in cotton which offers a lightweight and breathable feel, great for when you’re running around town in the rain. It also features a removable nylon insert, perfect for those mornings when it’s a little bit chillier.

Moss flannel long puffer

When the frost appears

When winter truly settles in, you’ll need a solid piece of outerwear that will keep the cold out. That’s when puffers work their magic, particularly ones crafted from a soft and cosy flannel. Wadded with insulating padding, our navy puffer traps warm pockets of air, keeping you heated for longer. It’s also extra long, warming your lower half as well as your torso.

If you need something a bit smarter, a boucle coat does wonders for the winter wardrobe. In a seasonal red colour, ours is crafted from a textured wool blend that’s insulating and long-lasting too. Double faced with peak lapels, it works well with everyday suiting and neutral accessories but looks good with weekend attire too. Go the extra mile by pairing it with our red cord suit and embrace tonal dressing this winter.
