Royal trend report

Here’s what the men in the royal family love to wear

GET OUTFIT INSPO FROM SOME OF THE MEN IN THE ROYAL FAMILY

Words: L. Thorpe

With King Charles’ coronation just around the corner, we took a closer look at men’s fashion in the Royal Family to find out their wardrobe favourites.

We analysed of the key members of the royal family at their public appearances and combined this with search data to discover the most popular items in royal wardrobes.

What style of suit is most popular for the royal family?

It’s no surprise that you’ll see most of the men in the royal family in suits for public appearances and events. But what style is the most popular? Two-piece suits are the most frequently worn suit style, though three-piece suits and waistcoats also make an appearance regularly. Sometimes it’s even more scaled back, with a trousers and shirt combo.

Classic morning suits are worn regularly for formal events, too. But for more relaxed events, the royals get a little more creative with colour, fabric choice and accessories. For the BAFTAs in 2023, Prince William wore a black two-piece suit in a velvet finish, accessorising the look with a classic bow tie. King Charles has been seen in grey suits and pinstripe suits, too.

What colour do the royals wear the most?

When it comes to their formalwear, the royals are usually found in a blue suit, most specifically navy blue, which evokes feelings of calmness and stability. There’s been a 200% rise in searches for navy tweed suits and a 300% rise in searches for navy checked suits recently, showing that the public are (quite literally) following suit.

King Charles and Prince William were spotted in a navy blue suit on Easter Sunday, with the King also favouring this traditional suit colour at the Platinum Jubilee Concert. Prince Phillip also regularly wore his navy blue military uniform to many events, and Prince Harry wore a bespoke single-breasted frock coat at his wedding.

When it comes to ties, the royals keep it neutral too, with black and blue being the most worn tie colours at events.

How do the men in the royal family accessorise?

Top hats are a popular accessory, especially for events like Royal Ascot, where there’s a pretty serious dress code for those in the royal family. They need to wear black or grey morning dress, which includes a waistcoat and a top hat and usually has a morning coat with tails, a collared shirt, waistcoat, tie or cravat and formal trousers. King Charles was also seen in something similar at the Queen’s Garden Party.

The royals often accessorise with a classic tie or bow tie and pocket square, too. They’re also sometimes seen carrying umbrellas, which is a must when you’re trying to stay looking sharp in the Great British weather.

Who’s the most stylish male in the royal family?

When it comes to the most talked about for all things fashion and style on social media and in online searches, Prince Harry comes in first place. Whether it’s his wedding suit, what he wears for Ascot, or his more casual fits.

He’s closely followed by Prince William and Prince George (who’s in top place for the number of searches related to his outfits).

How to wear a tweed suit now

The menswear classic respun.

THE MENSWEAR CLASSIC RESPUN

Words: L. Holmes

Originating in Scotland in the nineteenth century, tweed soon earned the reputation as the go-to textile for the high-born country living set; they quickly realised that clothing fashioned from this sturdy weave was excellent at keeping the cold at bay while they were galavanting about outdoors. And although its popularity may have waxed and waned over the last one hundred years or so, today it’s still a fabric that a style-conscious man automatically turns to when there’s a decided nip in the air. Only this time, tweed looks just as confident when worn in town as it does in the country.

Moss - tailored fit duck egg donegal suit

DOES THAT MEAN I CAN WEAR A TWEED SUIT TO WORK?

Of course: tweed is that rare breed of a fabric that has successfully morphed from countryside uniform to workplace-ready togs, so whether you’re working at the office or from home these days you really can’t go wrong (though we suggest you leave off the tweedy hunting cap). Our newest tweed suits are slim cut, lightweight and breathable – faultless working arsenal styled with a shirt and tie for meetings with the boss, or with a T-shirt for a look that’s pulled together but completely at ease.

WHAT ABOUT COLOURED TWEED – HOW EASY IS IT TO PULL OFF?

Coloured tweeds are so easy to wear in your day-to-day life, that you’ll end up wondering why it’s taken you so long to get on board. For those a little hesitant of wearing colour, you’ll find the texture and tweed’s matte finish tones down vivid colours. A khaki tweed suit is definitely less out-there than wearing, say, a linen suit in the very same shade.

For a subtler take on colour, try a tweed with a contrast-coloured check. Team yours with tonal separates (some knitwear and tailored trousers, for example) as an assured take on the trend.

SOUNDS GREAT, BUT CAN I WEAR TWEED WHEN I’M NOT WORKING TOO?

Yes, and with the minimum of effort on your part: wear your tweed trousers with a roll-neck jumper or a T-shirt for an uncomplicated yet contemporary feel. Not only will this balance the bolder tweed off against such simple basics, but it also ticks the box for comfort – a non-negotiable whatever your plans these days.

Spring clothes: what to wear in between seasons, inspired by Fred

Because getting it right in between seasons isn’t always easy.

WHAT TO WEAR THIS SEASON, INSPIRED BY FRED’S LATEST EDIT

Words: L. Thorpe

Wondering what to wear now that the weather’s at that in between season where it’s sunny, cold and raining all in one day? Here’s our guide to putting together a spring outfit that’ll take you through to next season, inspired by Fred Sirieix’s latest Moss edit.

Overshirts and shackets

When the weather’s changing in spring, layering is key. Overshirts and shackets are a great way to update your spring clothes for this transitional season so you can stay warm or take it off and not overheat. You can dress them up or down easily and they go with almost everything. They’re an essential for day to night, too, as you can always layer up as the evening gets cooler. Skip the heavy fabrics and try out lighter options like linen and cotton.

Lighter colours and prints

Spring is the perfect time to lighten up your wardrobe and look at adding some different colours schemes in your outfit. Try adding a little colour or go for lighter colours like creams and whites. You can try light blues, pinks and greens, which are all on-trend this season for a fresh and modern look. It’s a great time to experiment more with colour, bolder prints and co-ordinating patterns.

Chinos

Chinos were made for this time of year, especially if you need to go into the office. Go for lighter colours or classic black for a style that’s easier to mix and match, whatever the weather and wherever you’re going. Pair with a classic pair of shoes, or something more casual like loafers, or even trainers for a touch of that spring/summer style.

Linen suits

Normally more of a summer vibe, linen suits are a great way to broach the period of time between spring and summer. They’re light, relaxed and easy to wear, especially as the weather gets a bit warmer and heavier fabrics don’t quite cut it. You can wear linen suits to the office, an early wedding or an outdoor event. Choose a lighter, neutral colour for an extra touch of warm-weather magic.

Lightweight sweaters and jumpers

Lightweight sweaters and jumpers are great for the transition from spring to summer. Layering is often the best option when the weather’s a little bit unpredictable. You can choose to make a statement in a bright colour, or a colour that complements your skin tone. If you want to keep it a little safer, choose classic neutrals to keep cosy on cooler days. Wear them with chinos and layer with your favourite jacket for a style for all seasons.

Short sleeved shirts

Short sleeved shirts are a must-have for spring. They’re comfy and lightweight, so they give a more casual feel to any outfit, though you can wear them for work and more formal occasions, too. They’re perfect for heading to the office in the warmer weather, going on a date, or going for a couple of drinks after work. Again, you can experiment with colour, patterns and fabrics. Pair them with a casual trouser or tailored shorts if you’re feeling the heat.

Trainers and casual shoes

You can ditch your boots for something a little lighter and more casual, like your favourite trainers or loafers. You can wear them with whatever you like and for any type of event. Go for a classic pair of white trainers or a simple pair of suede loafers. Whether you’re heading to a festival, chilling in a beer garden, or going out for a stroll, trainers or loafers are both great options. Just remember to add some suede protector if that’s your go-to loafer style.

The spring coat guide

Get decked out for going out.

THE SPRING COAT GUIDE

Words: C. Stewart

You might not like it, but coat season is continuing through to spring. Slightly better news: your winter coat might be a bit too warm to keep on wearing as the weather warms up.

So, here are a few light-to-midweight options (and a heavier one just in case) to keep you cosy as the weather changes. Whether you’re taking on early colder-weather commutes or you’re getting back to pub gardens, a good outerwear line-up will see you through.

For full outfit points

Your coat shouldn’t be an after-thought. What’s the point in putting together a well-planned outfit if your poorly considered outerwear lets down the side? A more relaxed blazer is a failsafe choice, but choose one with standout detail (like a colourful check and bouclé texture) for true outfit-crowning status. Anchor it with solid-coloured chinos and accessories that call on the shades in the jacket.

For unpredictable weather

Spring should mean brisk days that get reliably warmer as the season sets in. The reality? Cold mornings that transition into bafflingly warm afternoons. When the weather can’t make up its mind, why should you? A lightweight jacket you can layer under something warmer is a super smart choice.

For when it’s properly rainy

When spring finally arrives, keeping dry jumps to the top of the priority list. But that doesn’t mean style should go out the window. A trench is just about the best thing you can put on if you want to stay dry and stylish. oOurs is made with breathable cotton for warm days, and a little room for layering if it’s still a bit chilly.

For those slightly warmer days

Again, for that unpredictable weather that swings in the opposite direction and brings cooler weather, you’ll need something a a bit warmer. Our knit bomber isn’t bulky, so you can still layer it, but it’ll offer more than enough warmth on its own when the temperatures drop.

How to wear merino in the spring

Here’s how to wear merino jumpers, polos and T-shirts in warmer weather.

HOW TO WEAR MERINO IN WARMER WEATHER

Words: T. MacInnis

When you think of merino wool, you might see a big, thick jumper, ideal for a chilly winter day. But, thanks to its moisture-wicking abilities, merino wool is actually a great fabric for sunnier weather.

Read on to see our best spring-ready merino pieces and find out how to wear them as the weather (hopefully) turns a bit warmer.

Merino zip-neck jumper

Spring in the UK can be incredibly unpredictable, which is why you need versatile layers that can keep you warm when it’s cool, but lightweight enough so you don’t overheat. This merino zip-neck jumper in a dusty pink shade is spot on. Wear it with chinos for the office, wear it under a suit for a smart-casual look, and wear it with shorts when the weather veers into summery territory.

Merino quarter-zip polo

If you love a classic polo, up your game with this merino one that trades the usual buttons for a quarter zip. The polo silhouette means it makes perfect sense with shorts on hotter days, and you’ll get that moisture-wicking ability from the merino. But, the texture of the merino also makes it a bit more appropriate for pairing with a suit for another great smart-causal look, ideal for a city wedding.

Merino T-shirt

Everyone loves a good T-shirt. But if you’re bored of the basics, why not try something a bit different? Merino is a great alternative to your usual cotton, again for keeping you cool, but also adding some visual interest to what could be a simple look. You’ll be reaching for this one in its deep blue shade all summer long, whether you’re packing for a holiday or headed to the pub with friends.

We love merino because it’s a natural fabric with amazing temperature-regulating abilities, and the yarns we’ve chosen retain their shape so your piece will always look as good as it did the day you bought it. Try it out this season and you’ll always feel comfortable, no matter what the weather brings.

How to wear a waistcoat

There’s more than one way to wear a waistcoat.

THERE’S MORE THAN ONE WAY TO WEAR A WAISTCOAT

• WORDS: A. FOZZARD

If there’s one item that sets you apart as a man who dresses well, it’s a waistcoat. Wear it right, and you’ll look sharp for work, charming at weddings and comfortably smart at the weekend. More than just an accessory, waistcoats are designed to define your torso and create a smooth finish where your shirt meets your trousers. They’re also more versatile than you might think and look at home as a part of many different outfits. Here’s how to get maximum mileage out of your waistcoat.

  WHAT IS A WAISTCOAT?

You probably already know exactly what a waistcoat is, but just in case you don’t here’s the lowdown. It’s a sleeveless jacket-style top that’s worn on the upper body, it usually buttons up at the front and sometimes has an adjustable strap at the back for the perfect fit. Think Gareth Southgate’s famous World Cup waistcoat style, men’s 3-piece suits and the stereotypical English country gent style.

Most people think of waistcoats for more formal events like parties, formal dinners, and work events. It lets you layer up, experiment with different fabrics and finishes and can help to pull together your formal attire. You can even make your waistcoat into a statement piece that boosts a simpler suit. Originally waistcoats were created as formal wear to be worn under a coat.

However, waistcoats aren’t just for formal events, they’re much more popular for daily wear than ever before. Wearing a more casual waistcoat for drinks, dates and dinner is a great way to hit the spot between dressed up and dressed down. Not sure about the weather? A waistcoat means you can layer up and still look stylish without too much effort, especially if you choose linen and wool blends or a cotton waistcoat.

HOW SHOULD A WAISTCOAT FIT?

First of all, as with all tailoring, getting the fit of your waistcoat right is essential to looking well-turned-out. It should sit close to your body but not feel restrictive so you can move without it gaping. The straps should fit flat on your shoulders without lifting up when you move your arms around. Follow these few rules, and you’ll find one that suits your frame perfectly. Most waistcoats have a strap at the back that you can adjust to help it fit better, but avoid relying on this too much because you don’t want the material to rumple.

What types of waistcoats can you get?

Waistcoats don’t just come in one style, you can get them in different fabrics, fits and shapes. So wherever you’re headed, you’ll find your match.

TWEED WAISTCOAT

A men’s tweed waistcoat is the ultimate country gent style, but it doesn’t have to be stuffy. It’s exactly what it sounds like, a traditional-looking waistcoat made from tweed fabric like herringbone or Donegal tweed. You can either go all-in on tweed and match it to your suit for a retro look, or you can contrast your waistcoat with your suit for a more modern take on a classic style. The choice is completely up to you!

Try a lighter, modern tweed blend to lift your look so that it feels easier to wear whilst still looking at the part. It’ll still be an extra layer for your outfit and one that can make a huge difference to a plainer suit style. Tweed is a great way to give a nod to heritage fabrics and styles but with a more up-to-date take on the look.

SINGLE-BREASTED WAISTCOAT

Like a single-breasted suit, a single-breasted waistcoat is a style of a waistcoat that comes with a single row of 6-7 buttons with a small overlap. It’s easier to close than double-breasted styles and is usually seen as a more casual waistcoat style. This is the one to wear for more low-key events that don’t have a formal dress code.

Style your single-breasted waistcoat with jeans, chinos, suit or relaxed trousers and a shirt in a contrasting (or matching) style for a contemporary layered look. Matching your waistcoat and suit is more formal and dressed up takes on the look, but wear whatever you feel comfortable in and whatever works for the occasion.

DOUBLE-BREASTED WAISTCOAT

A double-breasted waistcoat has two rows of buttons that line up on each side. They usually have 3 or 4 buttons in each row for a more formal, dressed-up style than single-breasted waistcoats. This is a more common style to match up with a suit, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t have a little fun with it or that you can’t make it into a more casual waistcoat.

Wear your double-breasted waistcoat with a suit or shirt that contrasts to lift your formal style. If you want to dress it down with a more casual outfit, don’t let the double-breasted style stop you – it can look just as good with jeans, chinos or a more casual style. Keep your waistcoat buttoned up to show off its style, shape and structure of it as you layer.

HORSESHOE WAISTCOAT

A horseshoe waistcoat is a waistcoat with a low-cut neckline design that was traditionally worn as an evening style with a dinner suit. The neckline was made in this low-cut style to show off the bib of a formal, traditional shirt. It’s also known as a ‘bow’ or ‘U-shape’ waistcoat, but horseshoe is its more common name, and it comes in various fabrics and finishes.

This style of the waistcoat has become more popular in recent years and has moved away from being solely evening or formal wear. It means you can show off your shirt and tie and works well for a wedding style, especially for fashion-conscious, modern weddings. Make your tie into more of a feature with a tie bar or clip and a formal shirt.

OTHER TYPES OF WAISTCOATS

There are a few other styles of waistcoats that are variations on the main styles of waistcoats that are out there. A waistcoat with a lapel features a lapel at the neckline of the waistcoat. It can come in different lapel styles like notch, peak and shawl. Some waistcoats even feature a contrasting lapel made from a different material or colour for those who want a more adventurous style.

Another option is a cloth-backed waistcoat, which is a waistcoat that has the same material on the back of the waistcoat and the front. Traditionally, you wouldn’t see the back of a waistcoat as it’d be covered with a suit which is why more formal styles have a back made from lining for a smoother fit under a suit.

How to style your waistcoat

Let’s start out with some styling tips and move to some more in-depth ways to wear your waistcoat.

1. Waistcoats have a lining on the back that will be on full show when you take off the jacket.

Feel free to be bold with the colour and pattern, but make sure your shirt choice doesn’t clash.

2. Always leave the bottom button undone. It’s the done thing.

3. If you choose a skinny or slim fit, it will have slimmer shoulder straps that can create the illusion of bigger muscles – just a heads-up.

TAKE A TWO-PIECE TO A THREE-PIECE

Let’s start with the classic matching option. It’s the look to go for if you want to get ahead at work or have a dressed-up occasion like the races or a wedding. Select the waistcoat that’s made for the suit, and you won’t have to worry about whether or not it looks right.

Contrast your tie and shirt combination to bring your outfit to life and feel free to show a bit of personality with the pattern and colour in your accessories. Or, show your easy-going side by ditching the tie and going for an open neck, as long as it won’t look out of place on the day.

CONTRAST YOUR PATTERNS

Basically a three-piece with a bit more personality, this option combines contrasting patterns in your waistcoat and suit. Think a plain waistcoat under a checked suit, or a tweed waistcoat with a contrasting plain-weave suit.

It’s a bit more adventurous, but you’ll look smart and still stand out at meetings and upscale dos. Wear a contrasting colour in your tie to add to the layered effect, or keep it simple with a coordinating one.

RETHINK THE TWO-PIECE

Rather than going traditional and wearing a jacket-and-trouser two-piece, replace your jacket with a waistcoat to keep cool on warm days without losing any sense of style. Some waistcoats come with a pocket on the chest so you can add a square and dress it up if you want to.

PARE IT BACK

Dressing a waistcoat down works well too, and will see you from brunch to the bar. Wear it over a casual shirt with a pair of jeans or chinos to polish up your weekend apparel. This look works best with a textured waistcoat, like herringbone or tweed.

Either wear your shirt open-necked or add a knitted tie to smarten up a bit. Just be sure to tuck your shirt into your jeans to keep your silhouette streamlined.

A FEW TIPS FOR WEARING YOUR WAISTCOAT

Some final thoughts:

Waistcoats have a lining on the back that will be on full show when you take off the jacket.

Feel free to be bold with the colour and pattern, but make sure your shirt choice doesn’t clash.

Always leave the bottom button undone. It’s the done thing.

If you choose a skinny or slim fit, it will have slimmer shoulder straps that can create the illusion of bigger muscles – just a heads-up.

Moss SS23: Made for life

Spring is on its way. Here’s what to wear.

WELCOME TO SPRING/SUMMER 2023 AT MOSS

Words: T. MacInnis

Despite the recent cold snap, spring is only three weeks away. That means it’s almost time for pub gardens, days in the park and sunny walks. If you need a new wardrobe for all those warm-weather outings, our SS23 collection has you covered.

We know you might be looking to make better choices this season, buy well-made things, and consume a little less. But, no matter what your spring plans are, you’ll want to make sure you feel confident, both in how you look and in the longevity of your clothing. When you choose high-quality, versatile pieces that can be worn again and again, you’ll find greater confidence.

This season, we’ve struck a balance between that versatility and hitting all the key trends for SS23. Read on to learn more about those trends, and how Moss’ latest collection is made for your life, however it looks right now.

Shades of blue

After a dreary winter, putting on a bright, light colour can instantly make you feel refreshed and ready for the new season. Pale blue is that colour for SS23. Particularly for a special occasion, consider a pastel blue suit instead of your usual grey. Same goes for the office. For weekends or more relaxed settings, opt for pastel blue shorts and a soft blue linen shirt.

Preppy, but relaxed

Sleeves are overrated, and our new sweater vest proves that. All over the season’s menswear runways from Kenzo to Brunello Cucinelli, sleeveless knitwear is set for a big comeback this spring. Layer it over a T-shirt, wear it under a blazer, or wear it on its own if you’re feeling extra adventurous.

Tie it up

Sometimes, you have to go back to the basics. For SS23, that basic is a tie. Of course, a tie always looks great with a three-piece suit and a pocket square for a wedding. But try wearing one with a more causal outfit at the weekend to really capitalise on this resurgence.

Retro-fit

If dark colours are for winter, a bold print is for spring. Our favourite is this retro-inspired one, and we’ve got it in several colours this season, each one printed at an Italian mill. Whether you wear a printed shirt with plain chinos or shorts, under a lounge suit for a beach wedding, or with another, contrasting print, you’ll love how it instantly adds personality to any outfit.

Open season

Our Cuban-collar shirts are always a favourite come spring. But this year, we’ve gone for more open knits for extra breeziness and tonal stripes to play off the incoming monochromatic trend. Wear them with pleat-front trousers for a ’50s off-duty look, or with shorts on a beach holiday.

Short story

Shorts aren’t always a runway favourite for menswear, but this year, it was a different story. With brands like Prada, Ami and Wales Bonner showing shorts in varying lengths and fabrics, you can bet they’ll be a staple this spring. Wear them with knitwear while the weather’s still a bit chilly and a polo shirt when the heat sets in.

Whatever you add to your wardrobe for SS23, we encourage you to make considered choices. Ask yourself if you can picture wearing the item to more than three events in the next six months. Think about whether the item goes with at least five other pieces in your wardrobe. And most of all, make sure you really love it and feel great when you’re wearing it.

How to take on tonal dressing

Here’s how to wear one colour (or colour family), head to toe

FROM WORK TO WEEKENDS – WEAR ONE COLOUR, HEAD TO TOE

Words: T. MacInnis

Tonal dressing might sound a bit intimidating, but we promise it’s less complicated than it sounds. And, even though it’s a simple thing to implement in your wardrobe, it can make you look instantly put together. Read on to find out what tonal dressing is, and how you can make the concept work no matter where you’re headed or what you’ve got on.

What is tonal dressing?

Tonal dressing means wearing colours from the same colour family head to toe. It’s easiest to do with more neutral colours like browns and greys, but you can also achieve it with bright hues like blues and reds. No matter what colour family you choose, you build your outfit by mixing and matching shades that fall into that family.

We recommend starting with a colour you already have in your wardrobe. Chances are, you’ve got a pair of beige or grey trousers, a grey jumper or even a neutral-toned suit. Start with one of those pieces, then build your look from there with a new item or accessories in that same colour family.

epsom coat

How can I make tonal dressing work for the office?

The great thing about tonal dressing is that it makes that coveted subtle statement. You’ll look like you put some effort into your outfit, but never like you tried too hard. If you choose a navy suit, wear it with a lighter blue tie, a light blue shirt and even navy shoes. If you’re going for a taupe suit, pick a darker brown tie, and brown shoes. You can always stick with a white shirt if you’re more comfortable, as long as any colour you add into the mix fits within that main colour family you’ve chosen.

epsom coat

How can I make tonal dressing work at the weekend?

Tonal dressing doesn’t mean you can’t work with a pattern. This checked overshirt, for example, gives you the option to go with browns, greys or whites, or even bend the rules a bit and mix in a few different things. Either way, you’ll get a cohesive look that’s not too matchy-matchy, but still looks considered. That’s ideal for a weekend spent relaxing, or even a city mini break.

That brings us to another benefit of tonal dressing: it can make packing a breeze. If everything’s in the same tone, it’ll all go together no matter which pieces you decide to pair.

epsom coat

What are some staple pieces I need for tonal dressing?

In the same way tonal dressing makes packing a breeze, it can also be a great way to start building a capsule wardrobe. Again, because you’ll have pieces in the same colour family or tone, everything in your wardrobe will go together, maximising the amount of outfits you can build. A jacket you can layer, a neutral T-shirt, or joggers you can dress up or down are all great pieces to start with.

epsom coat

How can I make tonal dressing work as a groom?

Of course, we love to apply this concept to a groom outfit. Combining tonal dressing with another big trend this year – all-black, head to toe – and you get this super unique suiting look that makes another subtle statement. Particularly great for a wedding in the city, choosing all-black is edgy and romantic. Go for it if that’s your vibe.

HERE’S WHAT TO WEAR THIS VALENTINE’S DAY

Words: L. Thorpe

Need some inspiration for Valentine’s Day? We’ve got some ideas for where to take your date, along with some tips to choose your best date outfit. Confidence and feeling good about yourself can help you relax and be more comfortable, so go for it.

Where to head on Valentine’s Day

Whether you’ve been together for the long haul or it’s fresh and new, heading on a date can be a great way to get to know one another a little better, and spend some quality time doing something that you wouldn’t usually do.

epsom coat

Dinner and drinks

Dinner and drinks is a classic date night you can make exactly what you want it to be. You can choose to go somewhere romantic and intimate, somewhere new and exciting, or somewhere that’s casual and laid back. It depends on what you’re looking for, but no matter where you choose, we recommend you book a table ahead of time.

Depending on where you go, opting for something smart-casual is usually a good option. Think chinos, a shirt, and smart trainers or boots as a safe bet for dinner and drinks. Then, you can use your judgement if you want to go smarter or more casual based on the venue.

epsom coat

Concert

So you’ve booked the tickets, made your travel arrangements and sorted out where you’re going to grab some food or a drink ahead of the concert. Now it’s time to plan what you’re going to wear. Depending on who you’re going to see, and the vibe, you can usually be a little more relaxed at a concert or a gig. Try a pair of smart joggers paired with a fitted T-shirt and a shacket over the top.

That way you can layer up (or down) depending on how hot the venue’s getting, but you won’t be too chilly on the way home. It is February, after all.

epsom coat

Wine tasting

Add a touch of sophistication to your Valentine’s Day with an activity like wine tasting. Go a little dressier for this one in a blazer, shirt, chinos, and smart shoes. Even a more relaxed suit with a roll-neck jumper can be a good look for wine tasting. Just steer clear of anything too white or lighter coloured in case you encounter any spillages.

Cooking at home

You can definitely have fun with this one and make it as relaxed or as casual as you want it to be. You can go full effort with a smart three-piece suit and bring the glamour home, or you can really relax and just wear what you’d normally wear to hang out at home. The same goes for if you order in rather than cooking yourself.
