WHAT DO MEN WEAR TO GRADUATION?

Your graduation photo will probably be front and centre on the mantelpiece for years to come, so we recommend going for something classic and then adding some personality with your accessories. A well-fitted charcoal or navy suit will always be considered smart. It’ll be appropriate for the ceremony and also look great for any celebrations that may take place after. Team your suit with a plain shirt for a look that is timeless.

If you want to take it up a notch, choose a three-piece suit that will make you feel extra put together. A classic colour such as olive or charcoal, as above, is a sleek and sophisticated option that you can re-wear to interviews, weddings and other events later down the line.

WHAT TO GRADUATION IF IT’S GOING TO BE HOT?

Depending on your university, graduation often happens in the summertime which means the weather should be pretty good (though be prepared for the worst, we do live in the UK after all). Because you’ll be in your get-up all day, it’s best to choose something that is comfortable and lightweight so you don’t feel too heavy with your gown draped over the top. In comes linen, summer’s favourite fabric, and all of it’s wonderful properties. Whether you choose a slim or tailored fit, the light, slightly textured fabric will wick away any moisture and help you cool.

WHAT IF I DON’T WANT TO WEAR A SUIT FOR GRADUATION?

Your graduation is a celebration of your achievements so even if you don’t feel comfortable wearing a suit, we advise still going for something smart. Why not style some tailored separates together for a more relaxed look?

A darker colour is best for your bottom half as it’s the bit that can be seen beneath your gown. Choose a pair of trousers that suit your shape and style – from slim to tailored, there’s a fit to suit everyone. As for shoes, they’ll be seen too, so choose a pair of well-polished leather derbies – they’re smart but feel a bit more casual than Oxfords.

CAN I WEAR JEANS TO GRADUATION?

In short, no. It’s a ceremonial event and formal dress is normally customary. Jeans, T-shirts, trainers and other casual clothes are not considered appropriate and some universities might not let you into your graduation ceremony wearing them.

That said, if your university is less traditional, you might be able to get away with a laid-back look, like a printed shirt and a more colourful suit, like above. Before you make any decisions about your outfit, it’s always best to find out what the dress code is and stick to it.

WHAT KIND OF ACCESSORIES DO YOU WEAR FOR GRADUATION?

You’ll spend a lot of the day standing, so make sure you choose a pair that are comfortable, smart and polished. Your shoes will be seen out of the bottom of your gown, so go for a smart, classic Oxford with a rounded toe or a brogue in a tone to match your suit. Alternatively, go for a formal pair of loafers or brogues if you’d like a more fashion-led look.

As for accessories, the world is your oyster. If you want to keep things formal, choose a tie that contrasts your suit like this burgundy silk tie. It comes in an array of colours and has a matching pocket square if you really want to up the ante. Alternatively, lose the tie and choose an open collar shirt for a more casual feel.

HOW DO I GET MY GRADUATION CAP TO STAY ON?

First things first, make sure your cap fits the way it’s supposed to. Use a tape measure and check your size with the measurements given by the supplier. Your cap should fit snugly but not be too tight. Wait until you have everything else on, then use some spray before fitting your cap to avoid hat hair. If you’re still having trouble getting your cap to stay in place, you can use a few hair grips to secure the cap to your head.

Here’s an interesting fact: tassels are usually worn on the right side and shifted to the left when you receive your scroll.

What to wear to a beach wedding

Here’s everything you need to know to choose a beach wedding suit.

YOUR GUIDE TO BEACH WEDDING OUTFITS

Words: L. Thorpe

If you’re lucky enough to have received an invitation to a wedding, then you might be wondering what to wear. Get it wrong, and you might end up with an uncomfortable day. Do you wear a suit? Do you wear shorts and a shirt? Are sandals ok?

Here’s everything you need to think about when it comes to a beach wedding, and what to wear for one.

GUEST – copper linen pleated trousers // linen grandad collar shirt // Lewisham brown suede casual loafer

Planning to attend a beach wedding

A beach wedding is normally more relaxed. The bride and groom might decide on more traditional outfits or dress code, but usually with a beach wedding it’s a bit more casual. This means balancing the look and comfort level on the day. Check this out when you accept your invitation as it will help you decide what to wear.

The other thing to consider is where you’re heading. Not all beaches are created equally. There’s a big difference in what to wear if you’re jetting off to a destination wedding in a tropical location vs a beach wedding in the UK or somewhere cooler and breezier.

If you’re travelling further afield to head to a beach wedding, you also need to think about packing your outfit and taking it with you. Some fabrics and fits travel better than others. Choosing to take something like an non-iron shirt or a fabric that’s meant to look a little more lived-in, like linen, can go a long way.

Check the weather forecast before you travel and then ahead of the wedding or event. It might make sense to take a couple of different options if it looks like the weather could change while you’re out there.

GROOM – tailored fit white seersucker suit // tailored fit off white linen shirt // Lewisham taupe suede casual loafer

What to wear to a beach wedding

If you’re heading to a warm-weather beach wedding, go lightweight. Choose a light, breathable fabric like linen or cotton for your suit and stick to a 2-piece suit instead. Seersucker is also a great summer fabric for beach weddings – our take has a traditionally puckered surface that adds a bit of interest and offsets a smooth linen shirt and soft suede loafers. Lose the tie and keep the collar open for a breezy look.

You might even be able to relax the look even further by choosing a suit that’s more of an oversized or less structured fit, wearing a T-shirt underneath instead of a shirt or going without the jacket completely. Read our guide on what to wear to a summer wedding for more warm-weather styling ideas.

Check the dress code with the couple and the wedding organisers so you know what you’ve got to work with. Some beach weddings are even more relaxed, with chino shorts or wide leg trousers and short sleeved shirts (with or without a bow tie) being a great option. Pleated trousers cut from linen are an light and airy option that still has you looking put together. Our take comes in a trending coppery tone that offers a nice contrast to a white linen shirt.

Either way, it’s unlikely that you’ll be expected to wear a full 3-piece suit in something like tweed if you’re in a warmer climate.

As for footwear, ditch the formal leather shoes and go for more casual footwear like loafers, boat shoes or sandals. Make sure your shoes are comfortable and suitable for sandy or uneven terrain too, as you don’t want to end up feeling uncomfortable throughout the day.

Colour is also important for a beach wedding. Again, check in with the wedding party but often lighter, more relaxed colours look great if you’re a guest at a wedding on the beach. Think beige, tan, light grey and subtle additions of muted colours like light blue or pale pink. Go a little more relaxed than you would at a traditional wedding.

Shacket vs overshirt – and how to wear yours

Confused? Don’t be, answers this way.

Mos - ecru seersucker safari jacket

SHACKET VS. OVERSHIRT – WHAT’S THE DEAL?

Words: C. Stewart

You’ll have seen the word a lot this season: shacket. But what exactly is it? What makes it different from an overshirt? And how are you supposed to wear it? Answers here.

Moss - charcoal wool linen shacket

What’s a shacket, then?

A shacket fuses the best of two staples – it wears like a shirt but is slightly thicker, just enough to keep you warm like a jacket.

If it’s not already, it’ll be one of the hardest-working items in your wardrobe. You’ll easily trade a coat in for one when it’s cool but not cold, or use it as a layer to build up your look when you need extra warmth.

What’s the difference between a shacket and an overshirt?

We can’t go any further here without ironing this out: in truth, shackets and overshirts are widely interchangeable by name and you’ll find either word used for the same sort of styles by different brands.

Our take is that a shacket leans more on the jacket end of the scale with thicker fabrics, a weightier hand-feel and more jacket-like details. Whereas an overshirt feels much more like a shirt but has a more relaxed fit than your usual button-up so you can layer it over other pieces.

Whichever term you land on, they’ve both got a utilitarian feel that’ll make a smart outfit feel more casual and smarten up a casual look. Magic.

Moss - ecru herringbone linen shacket

Types of shackets and overshirts

It won’t surprise you that shackets and overshirts come in all sorts of forms. From lightweight and layerable to weighty and warm, there’s a style to cover all of your outerwear needs.

A linen shacket is a breathable take on the look that will make a nice contrast worn over a cotton tee and imply you’ve put some thought into your outfit. Our navy matte linen safari jacket is a great option when the weather isn’t quite warm enough for short sleeves – blended with Sorona, a renewable fibre that helps with crease resistance, it’s a great option to pack with your holiday gear as an evening layer for when it gets a bit breezy.

A relaxed overshirt offers the sort of ease of wear that means you can throw it on and go live your life. Our worker overshirt is crafted from a breathable cotton linen blend that’s comfortable and easily smartens up a casual outfit. The tailored fit offers a bit of structure, and looks just as good over open over a boxy t-shirt as it does buttoned up. And, as it’s designed like a shirt, it can be worn like one too. Combine with jeans, chinos or joggers and finish with a sporty trainer for an easy weekend look.

How about a shacket and trousers matching set? Our take is crafted from linen and cotton blended with ramie, a durable eco friendly fabric that holds its shape well and strengthens the garment. A set is a great way of creating a cohesive outfit that looks and feels put together. You can also wear them as separates if you don’t want to combine the two, and with the neutral tone, they pretty much go with any colour.

And finally, a brightly coloured shacket adds a shot of interest to your lineup. Our take is made from a breathable cotton blend, with a little stretch for extra comfort. With a tailored fit that offers a more refined profile, it’s still comfortable enough for breezy evening strolls. Create a summery, tonal look by pairing with relaxed chinos and a classic t-shirt.

How to style your shacket

The simple answer? Wear it with just about anything. You’ll find a shacket or overshirt as versatile as your favourite denim – and it’ll go with pretty much anything your jeans do too.

For the most layering potential, look for a boxier fit and a longer line than your standard shirt (or, tuck your shirt in for extra smart points). Wear yours to wrap a casual look up into something that bit more refined, like with a skipper polo and a pair of linen joggers for an easy weekend outfit. Or try an overshirt with a pair of tailored trousers and leather loafers for a hybrid smart/casual office look.

If it hasn’t done enough to earn its spot in your wardrobe already, know you can use a shacket as a light layer over a t shirt in spring and summer. Then, when it’s properly cold, use a mid-weight overshirt as an extra layer to trap air between a knitted jumper and your winter coat.

What to buy him for Father’s Day

Great gifts for the father figure in your life.

GREAT GIFTS FOR THE FATHER FIGURE IN YOUR LIFE

Father’s day is around the corner, so now’s the time to start thinking about what to gift the father figure in your life. What do they want or need? Are they in dire need of some summer essentials or an accessory to make their commute that much easier? Whether you’re spending the day with your dad, your uncle, your grandad or someone else, it’s worth investing in something that will make them feel special and appreciated. Here are our top picks for Father’s Day gifts this year.

Moss - black grained leather backpack

Practical accessories, elevated

If your dad’s old rucksack needs a serious upgrade, get him one that will last him a lifetime (and look good too). A backpack made from sleek black textured leather ticks all the boxes, and has ample room to hold all his essentials. For work or weekend, he’ll be picking it up again and again. If he does need something a bit smarter, an attache bag will hold all his business essentials as well as those loose papers. Add a matching leather wallet into the mix if he keeps losing his change.

Moss - tailored fit green linen shirt

Hot weather essentials

There’s nothing quite like a linen shirt in the summer. Breathability combined with a lightweight feel makes it the ideal warm-weather fabric. These will be a staple in your dad’s wardrobe over the summer months – he can pair them with anything from chino shorts to pleated trousers, and even wear them on the beach. Pick one up in every colour.

Moss - short sleeve shirts

Shirts you can wear anywhere

Another warm-weather essential, your dad can never have enough short-sleeve shirts. For more formal events, a short-sleeve Oxford will look great on its own or worn  tostay cooler under a suit jacket. Our comes in a tailored fit and features all the components of a classic Oxford shirt, minus the long sleeves. Wear it with the top button undone and a pair of chinos to ease the look up a bit.

Polo shirts are a classic smart-casual piece that will never go out of style. He can wear one to the office, to the pub and any other summer events he’s got planned.

Moss - shoes and socks

The finishing touches

You can’t go wrong with a pair of solid trainers. If your dad spends his days in loafers or brogues, gift him a pair of shoes he’ll love to kick back in at the weekend. Crafted from leather and suede, they’ll see him through casual work events too, especially when paired with a relaxed suit or chinos.

As for socks, you can never have too many pairs. Grab him one in every colour so he stops wearing the ones with all the holes. Ours are extra soft and crafted from mercerised cotton, making them brighter in colour, stronger and less likely to shrink in the wash.

Summer sets: co-ords for the warm weather

Easy sets to match the energy of laid-back summer living.

Moss - navy geo print shirt

EASY SETS TO MATCH THE ENERGY OF LAID-BACK SUMMER LIVING

Words: C. Saramowicz

Co-ords have been trending the last few summer seasons, and for good reason – easy to style, cohesive and comfortable to wear, they’re the ideal warm weather get-up for a festivals, garden parties and everything in between.

Whether you wear them together or as separates, it’s easy to create a multitude of outfits from a matching top and shorts set. Here are our takes on this season’s trending style.

The statement maker

If you’re not accustomed to wearing patterns, they might initially feel daunting – done right, however, and they can really elevate a co-ord set. Geo prints are a great way to add a bit of difference to your wardrobe without overdoing it, especially if you choose a monochromatic colour palette. Wear together for a striking look or combine the top with a navy pair of shorts to ease things up a bit.

Stripes galore

You can’t go wrong with stripes, especially if they come in flattering tones. Crafted from airy seersucker developed by Japanese fabric specialists Takisada, the fabric is lightly puckered which gives it a bit of texture. Seersucker is also very lightweight, which means you can easily pack it in your holiday suitcase without worrying about the extra weight. Wear as a set or pair the shirt with some linen trousers for a breezy weekend look.

Moss - sun print shirt

Summer prints

If the summer isn’t looking as sunny as you expected, bring the sun to you. This sunny print will look just as good by the pool at will at a garden party, especially if you wear it as a set.  Crafted from 100% cotton with a slight texture, it’s breathable and lightweight, which means you’ll be comfortable as well as looking great. We love the stripe detail at the bottom of the shorts that matches the hem of the shirt.

A little bit of texture

If prints really aren’t for you, go for a classic set in a neutral or navy tone. These are the easiest to style as separates and look really cohesive worn together too. Our take is made from 100% cotton with a terry towelling weave, designed to have a super soft handfeel and absorb moisture too. With a drawstring waist and a skipper polo top, it’s one of the more casual sets, great for days out in the pub or park. Finish with a pair of comfy trainers.

Dress code: summer of sports

For a season of well-dressed spectating.

FOR A SEASON OF WELL-DRESSED SPECTATING

Words: C. Saramowicz

Summer sporting events are more than just supporting your favourite team or player – they’re social gatherings, a chance to get together with friends and family to celebrate sport and have a good time. It’s also an opportunity to dress well, whether you’re headed to Wimbledon or a pub to watch the football. Let’s look at some of the events you might be attending this summer, and what to wear for them.

Olympics

The Olympics are one of the most prestigious sporting events of the year, but you don’t have to wear a suit to enjoy them. Unless you’re watching them live, you’ll most likely be relaxing at home in front of the TV or watching the events in the local pub. A smart pair of shorts in breathable linen will ensure you stay comfortable while looking put together. Combine them with a linen shirt and a pair of casual loafers.

Euros

If you’re planning on watching the Euros this year, comfort is your best bet. A classic chino or cargo pant will always hit the spot, but our take is slightly elevated so that you’ll still look polished. As for your top half, invest in something loose so you can move with ease a t-shirt or a short sleeve linen is a great choice. Finish with a pair of comfortable trainers to pull it all together.

Polos

Dressing up for a polo match is pretty much a given, so you won’t look out of place if you choose to wear a blazer. An unlined jacket is a good choice for the summer months as it’s a bit more breathable and won’t feel too heavy. Our take is crafted from an Italian wool and cashmere blend, boasting a lovely drape and a subtle bit of texture. Pair yours with a smart pair of stretch chinos and lightweight loafers for a sharp look that feels cohesive too.

Henley

There’s a dresscode for most areas at Henley Regatta, so make sure you check your ticket before you attend. Formal attire is required at the Stewards Enclosure, while the Regatta Enclosure is a bit more casual. If you want to join the herds of people wearing stripes (keeping to the event’s rowing theme), choose a suit that’s truly something special – our take is cut from Italian wool that hails from the Ferla mill, in an on-trend copper colour that will really stand out from the crowd. Top it off with an airy linen shirt and a striped tie and you’re ready for the rowing.

Warm-weather workwear

Workday kit to keep you cool when temperatures rise.

WHAT TO WEAR TO WORK WHEN IT’S HOT OUT THERE

Words: C. Saramowicz

Summer is great, but workwear can be tricky during the warmer months. With crisp mornings, sweaty commutes and dodgy aircon, how do you ensure you’re well prepared for the working week? Enter our fundamentals for the workplace, pieces that will get you through the summer and beyond. It’s all about looking put together, keeping cool and combatting the heat wave without feeling flustered.

Moss - short sleeve shirts

Short sleeve shirts

Short sleeve shirts are a summer staple. Light and versatile, they can easily be styled down or up depending on the formality of your work place. Worn buttoned up to the top under a linen suit and you’ve got a corporate look worthy of any board room (tie optional). As for more relaxed settings, add chinos and a white pair of trainers and you’re ready for a smart-casual office environment. Our takes are crafted from cotton, linen, or a combination of the two.

The great thing about these is they can be worn outside of the workplace, too. Combine with pleated shorts and loafers for weekend plans in the sun.

Comfortable trousers

When it comes to warmer weather, especially in the workplace, breathability is key. You don’t want to feel stuffy or uncomfortable during a heatwave. Wherever you work, a good pair of trousers will help you feel put together even if you’re feeling hot.

Our pleated take is crafted from summer’s favourite fabric, linen, with a mitred extended waistband and side adjusters for that extra sartorial touch. If you want something a bit more casual, chinos with a elasticated waistband are a bit more fitted but still give enough room for movement.

Unlined jackets

If you need an extra layer of formality but don’t want to wear a suit, an unlined jacket will be your go-to. Much lighter than a half or full canvas blazer, these will level up your outfits all while keeping you cool. Our Hoxton jackets are crafted from organic cotton with a hint of stretch that offer breathability and comfort, essentials in the heat. Throw them over a short sleeve shirt and add a pair of cotton chinos for a smart casual look ideal for big meetings and slow-paced office days alike.

White trainers

You can’t go wrong with a solid pair of white trainers; they pretty much go with everything, and they’re lightweight enough to see you through spring and into summer with ease. Ours are crafted from a combination of suede and leather and pair well with anything from denim to chinos, all the way to light-coloured casual suiting.

Moss - brighton grey khaki chunky trainers

Colour-blocked trainers

As seen above, trainers are essential year-round shoes, but you can switch up your trainer choice when warmer weather hits. Our Brighton neutral trainers offer up that more summer-y feel thanks to their lighter colour palette and on-trend chunky sole. They’ll also go with just about anything you’d like, be it shorts on a really warm day or a suit in a smart-casual setting.

Moss - camden chestnut chunky loafer

Leather loafers

Leather loafers with chunky soles are a massive trend right now, and we’ve got two pairs this season: one in black and one in warm brown. Use the black ones to ground a lighter-coloured outfit, or pair them with a suit to add some personality. The brown ones are ideal for more casual outfits, or if you want to make a summer suit a bit less formal.

Suede loafers

While still on-trend like their leather counterparts, these suede loafers are a more classic take on the shoe. Straddling the line between loafer and deck shoe, they’ll work well with a pleat-front short for a preppy look, or with a suit for a garden party. They’re also ideal for smartening up a pair of jeans—just be sure to balance the look with a polo or a casual collared shirt.

Espadrilles

A classic summer shoe, our take on the espadrille is a lightweight, casual alternative to the loafer. With a traditional woven jute sole and a soft Italian suede upper, they’re slightly more elevated than a classic espadrille,  looking just as good with loose beach trousers as they would with pleated shorts.

Whatever shoes you choose to add to your wardrobe this season, make sure you’re focused on versatility both in their silhouette and their colour. Consider how often you’ll wear them and make sure there’s more than one occasion they’re appropriate for. That way, you’ll get the most out of them, and for your money.

Don’t forget the socks…

Socks are just as important as the shoe, especially if they’ll be on show. If you’re heading to a wedding, match them up with your tie (or buttonhole if you’re a groomsman) for a cohesive, intentional look that will turn heads.

Trending: tennis core

It’s not all about gym shorts and sweatbands.
Moss - ecru boucle knitted shirt

EVERYTHING WE KNOW ABOUT TENNIS CORE – MEN’S TENNIS STYLE

Words: O. Brown

We’re calling it: Challengers will be known as the definitive men’s fashion film of 2024. Not only do co-stars Mike Faist and Josh O’Conner make men’s tennis style effortlessly cool, but the film has reignited a well-overdue trend that we haven’t seen in the mainstream for quite a while –tennis core.

Whether dressing up Wimbledon-style or getting that fresh-off-the-court look, we’re here for the revival of tennis core, provided it’s done well. Thankfully, Jonathan Anderson’s styling in Challengers has given us a cinematic lookbook that serves as a masterclass on how to get it right. Here’s everything the soon-to-be cult favourite has taught us about tennis core and how to get the look.

What is tennis core?

It’s not all about gym shorts and sweatbands – tennis core is a style that extends far beyond the court. It’s a stylistic approach where sportswear and old-money aesthetics intersect. And the look is as much influenced by tennis spectators as it is by players themselves, so taking cues from the grandstand is really the key to pulling it off.

The basics of men’s tennis style

Successful tennis core hinges on getting the basics right. For a sport and style steeped in tradition and fuelled by affluent spectators, this is where well-tailored garments really come into play.

polo shirt is the quintessential staple in men’s tennis style, and wearing one will never go amiss in conjuring up a sense of luxury and refined sporty style. Take it up a notch by choosing a knitted version of the classic polo for a bit of texture and refinement.

However, if there’s one thing that Challengers and the likes of Rafa and Djokovic have taught us, it’s that tennis core has room for T-shirts, too. If nothing else, a beautifully proportioned, high-quality T-shirt is all you need on top this summer.

Whichever side of the court you’re on – team tee or team polo – tuck either of them into a pair of smart or pleated trousers, and you’ve got tennis core. Add a blazer or casual jacket to the mix, and you’re ready to hit the stands at Wimbledon.

Embrace shorter shorts this summer

Challengers embraced shorter shorts, and we’re doing the same. If you haven’t already, there’s no better time go for a slightly shorter short than you’d usually wear. This isn’t to say you should wear a size down. Quite the contrary, a neatly tailored short will take a couple of inches off your usual knee-height profile without sacrificing comfort. Pair them with a casual button-down and a pair of laid-back loafers, and you have a look elevated yet versatile enough to take you from drinks by the pool to a Wimbledon after-party.

Accessorise with versatile footwear

If you want to go full Challengers-style tennis core, it’s worth having two pairs of shoes in your rotation: a match-ready pair of white trainers and a pair of smart loafers for an off-the-court look.

These two styles will keep you prepared for whatever comes your way –whether you’re being served a tennis ball, another spreadsheet, or a drink instead.

When in doubt, keep it simple

As volatile and outrageous as tennis players can be (we’re looking at you, Nick Kyrgios), the style is anything but. Men’s tennis style is about restraint and simplicity, so don’t overthink it. Stick to well-made, thoughtfully designed staples, and this fashion trend couldn’t be easier to pull off.

Holiday clothes for men: what to wear

EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR DAYS IN THE SUN

Words: L. Thorpe

Not sure which men’s holiday outfits you need this season? We want to make packing your suitcase as easy as possible so you don’t need to overthink your holiday outfits.

If you’re heading somewhere hotter than the UK, think sunshine, shorts and casual shirts. It’s all about layering, keeping cool and wearing fabrics that’ll keep you looking and feeling good.

Think about how long you’re going to be away for, where you’re going to and look at where you can mix and match to save some much-needed case space. Don’t forget that airport outfit either, sometimes you can’t beat a pair of joggers for long-haul. Want more travel outfit tips? Read how to travel in style.

THE HOLIDAY SHOP

Planning your outfits based on the type of holiday you’re having and the events you’re attending is important too. There’s no point packing a case full of beachwear if you’re going to be heading for sophisticated dinners and sightseeing, or putting together a ton of date-night outfits if you’re going away with your friends.

Here’s what we’d recommend as must-have men’s holiday clothes this summer:

Classic lightweight t-shirts
Smart shorts
Casual shorts
Casual/short sleeve shirts
Linen shirts
Trainers
Polo shirts
Chinos (or a pair of chino shorts)
Linen trousers
Overshirts
Smart-casual shoes

Wondering whether the weather’s going to change or going out somewhere a bit cooler? An overshirt or a shacket can help you to stay warm without being too bulky. Depending on where you’re going to be hanging out and what you’ll be doing while you’re away, you might want to take your favourite suit or smart shirt and trousers with you too. If you’re heading abroad for a friend or family’s nuptials this year, read how to pack for a destination wedding.

If you’re in need of some more event-specific styling tips for your summer travel plans, let’s take a closer look at the hottest styles to wear for every holiday eventuality. A linen suit would be our best recommendation for dressing up in warmer weather, as it’s lighter and more breathable than heavier suit fabrics. You can learn more about this summer-ready fabric in the lowdown on linen.

What to wear for a holiday night out

We love chino shorts for something that manages to sit between smart and laidback, while helping you to keep cool. They’re ready to wear straight from your case and look just as good with a white short sleeve shirt as with a T-shirt or a polo shirt for a more relaxed look. Style according to your venue.

Heading for a meal for two

Going for a romantic meal for two? Co-ords are a great choice for this one, whether you’re going for a beachfront dinner or somewhere more upmarket. Check the dress code of the restaurant before you head out as sometimes there’s an expectation that you wear trousers and smart shoes rather than shorts and trainers.

Choose relaxed fabrics like linen and cotton to stay cool, and play around with textures and fits to balance out a date night outfit. A Cuban collar or a linen shirt with shorts can really work together well if you’re not sure where to pitch your outfit.

Hitting the beach

The obvious answer when it comes to hitting the beach is swimwear. Our swim shorts are perfect for beach to bar – with side adjusters for a better fit, they’re an elevated version of a classic swim short and look just as good by the pool as they do with a linen shirt and loafers.

Depending where you’re heading though, the beach can be less about sunbathing and more about making an impact. Try a short sleeve Oxford or a coloured Cuban collar shirt by the sea, and wear it open if you get really warm. If you want to match (and stand out from the crowd), choose a co-ord like this geo print set.

Days out

What you wear for a day out will hugely depend on where you’re actually going. But for a straightforward sightseeing day, try out the Belfast trainer so you can stay comfortable while you check out the sights on offer. A simple set of casual shorts and a laid-back t-shirt are all you need to head out on your travels. You can always add an overshirt if you want to stay out of the sun or have the option to add another layer to your outfit.

Shopping

You don’t need to overthink your outfit if you’re heading out to grab a souvenir or two. A simple shorts and polo shirt combo will work, whether you’re heading to a rustic market or a huge shopping centre. This is the time to think about casual fits and comfort – you’re probably going to be doing some walking and trying things on, so you want to make it as easy as possible.

How to pack for travel

If you find packing for your holiday a struggle, you’re definitely not alone. Start by thinking about where you’re heading, how long for and what you’ll be doing when you’re out there. You also need to have that all-important luggage limit in mind – you don’t want to be re-packing in the middle of the airport.

Think about where you can mix and match your summer clothes. You probably don’t need a pair of trousers for every single night you’re away, but for t-shirts and tops that can change your whole outfit then you can pack a little more. Plus they’re lightweight and shouldn’t take up too much space in your case.

Ideally, you want to pack fabrics and outfits that are pretty low maintenance. Ironing and steaming clothes in a hotter climate is no fun at all, especially if you don’t have the space to stop them from getting crumpled up again. Choose non-iron shirts, linen fabrics and materials that look their best a little more lived-in.
