Celebrating over 150 years as the market leader in formal dresswear hire, Moss Bros Hire is a brand steeped in a magnificent heritage. As the only real instant hire retailer on the high street, Moss Bros Hire departments can be found within all Moss and selected Savoy Taylors Guild departments, commanding 25% share of the hire market.
Moss Bros Hire has widespread recognition and loyalty, serving customers at every key stage of their lives. Customers range from prom goers to groomsmen and the Who’s Who of business and celebrity including Richard Branson, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Jones and Neil Diamond who all frequent the stores.
Due to the nature of the hire service, customers naturally require repeat visits, which generates high traffic to the stores. The Regent Street’s Moss Bros has attracted over 45,000 customer visits in the last year.
Moss Bros Hire has a long established relationship with Royal Ascot, giving the business royal credentials. The partnership is in its seventh successful year of working together. Its exclusive partnership as the official morning wear partners for Ascot Racecourse began as Moss Bros Hire is the authority in dressing men for formal occasions with over 100 years experience and naturally, the two came together. The Royal Ascot Collection, a luxury range of morning wear and accessories, soon became exclusively only available at Moss Bros Hire departments around the country.
Morning wear is increasing in popularity year on year at Royal Ascot. Demand was the highest recorded in the history of the business in 2008 and Moss Bros Hire continues to be the number one choice for men looking for formal wear. Traditionally, a strict requirement for patrons in the Royal Enclosure, evidence suggests that although it isn’t obligatory, even racegoers in the main grandstand are increasingly observing etiquette rules and wishing to dress up for the day. As a result, Moss Bros Hire has ordered thousands more Royal Ascot Collection suits to meet demands of the event.

The Royal Ascot Collection
An ultra-lightweight morning suit crafted in luxurious pure new wool. It has been especially designed for the British summer, allowing the wearer to stay cool when the sun shines but provides warmth if the temperature cools. The traditional black morning coat is lined in royal blue satin and has the distinctive Royal Ascot logo embroidered on the inside pocket. Worn with pinstripe trousers and waistcoats in dove grey or gold, traditionally referred to as buff. The collection also includes an expanded range of silk ties for the more fashion forward customer.
Etiquette Rules
• The black morning suit is considered de rigueur at Royal Ascot, although a grey morning suit is acceptable.
• The suit must be a three-piece, comprising waistcoat, tailcoat and pinstripe trousers.
• A top hat is obligatory in the Royal Enclosure and must be worn at all times.
• Ties not cravats are a must.
• Cravats really stand out as the wrong choice at Royal Ascot. Wear a tightly knotted tie instead.
• Keep ties simple and smart – a splash of colour will complement your suit and lift the entire look.
• Ties are an opportunity to display individuality and personality but don’t over do it or you’ll look like the Mad Hatter at his tea party!
• Keep it simple with a white shirt – it will work with any tie and waistcoat combinations. Equally a gently shaded one is just as appropriate.
• Ensure you show at least an inch of shirt cuff below the coat sleeve as it balances out the crispness of the shirt at the neckline and contrasts with the dark morning suit for a fabulously smart combination.
• Whatever you do, don’t display your shirt beneath the waistcoat!
• Although the tradition for waistcoats is for dove grey, or biscuit brown, coloured waistcoats are much more acceptable than brazen patterns.
• Always leave the bottom button undone. Remember this little rhyme when it comes to doing up buttons: always for the top, sometimes for the middle, never the bottom.
• Coordinate with your partner’s outfit and you’ll look the perfect match!
• Avoid stuffing hankies into breast pockets, they should be neatly folded and pressed. Always opt for silk..a cotton one simply won’t do!Socks should be grey or black. Coloured socks are no longer considered eccentric, they just tend to look a little cheesy.
• Don’t let your outfit down with scuffed shoes. Give them a good polish until you can see your reflection in them!
