Summer’s Here

Long light days. Ice cold beverages. Great sporting events. Summer’s here and we’re just as excited as you are.

We all know how it goes, you go out during the day and the sun has a magical effect on you, it makes you drink more than you expected and tells you to stay out all day and night. This is where we come in. You need to transition from staying casual during the day but keeping a smart look for the evening. Two words for you; Linens and casualwear.

Casual shirts are always a killer look. Light and comfortable either if you choose to keep the top button fastened or loosen a few. Choose from our short sleeved and long sleeved ranges; cotton & linen.

We also have DKNY polo shirts that are perfect for summer.

Now that’s the day covered, what about the evening? Well, there are two approaches. Either you can go in a full suit, linen obviously. Or, you may want to play it safe and opt for a formal jacket. Formal jackets are always the best bet because as soon as you slip one on it makes any outfit that little bit smarter.

Linen Jackets…

Now, we’re not quite finished. Accessories are a must, you don’t want to be squinting all day now do you? Take a butchers’ at our Ted Baker sunglasses range.

Again, you’re going to be out all day and you’re obviously going to need something to carry all those bottles of… water, about. So keep it fashionable and subtle with these bags.

Oh and finally your need some comfy shoes, slip these moccasins on.

That’s it. You’re ready for summer. Just avoid getting grass stains.

The Journey to Become the Prom King

This blog piece was guest written by William Njobvu, digital editor of IDGAF Magazine & contributor to Menswear Style.

Prom season has arrived and school is out, it is time to prepare your trendy three piece suits with Moss Bros. With the exclusive prom deals that are being offered, you cannot go wrong. Your prom outfit must depict maturity, sophistication yet rebellion at the same time. Therefore, to ensure that you go home with the prom king crown, your outfit must stand out.

If you are completely indecisive of what to wear, do not worry as Moss Bros are offering 3 piece suits with free shirts and ties. Buying a full suit may reduce your stress levels. However, as Moss Bros are offering a range of quality pieces, hence why I would advise you to take advantage of this and get creative.

Let’s take you through a mix and match prom styling session which will get all of the ladies’ heads turning.

Black and white is the common prom colour theme, 80% of your male peers will most probably turn up in black and white. This colour theme is not an issue, however in order to make your outfit a bit more exciting, you will need to add in a bit of colour. This is where you can use your tie and shirt to the best of your advantage.

Moss Bros are selling refined slim fit shirts from £15 only, some of my favourite colours are the navy blue, red, wine and plum as these are masculine yet rebellious colours that will add a hint of flavour to your attire, whilst allowing you to look like the mature young man you are.

Tie or bow tie?  This has been an evolving argument when it comes to prom, but the bow tie will always win. Bow ties represent the British, royal and sophisticated male, this is the image you want for your prom night.  Feel like a king, even if it’s just for one night and purchase an excellent bow tie from Moss Bros. Luckily, you can get a bow tie for as cheap as £10, my personal favourite is the Venuto 21 Wine Skinny Check bow tie, as it will give your outfit preppy characteristics.

Keep your royal and rebellious look consistent and buy Moss Bros’s Black Cummberbund. It is 100% polyester with an adjustable strap, allowing you to feel comfortable and exclusive on your big night. Pocket Squares are also a must, consume the complete British young gentleman look and buy yours for only £7 from Moss Bros. My personal favourite is the Ventuno 21 Edge Border Pocket Handkerchief.

Braces go hand in hand with all of the accessories recommended above, although if you do decide to wear a shirt with colour, it would be best to wear black or white braces. Whereas, if you decide to wear a white shirt, have a look at Moss Bros’s Clip-On red braces, and you’re attire will not fail.

Finally, your shoes must correlate with the rest of your outfit, your look must be consistent throughout, Brogues will bring you this continuity. At the moment there are many on sale at Moss Bros, so think fast. Casually, I would recommend the Blazer Tan Oxford Brogues, but for this occasion, the Peter Werth Leather Brown Brogues or the all black Oxford Brogues are your best bet.

My final word of advice is to buy a blazer and trousers that match, and get creative with the rest, and I promise you, you’ll walk home with the prom king title. Have a look through www.moss.co.uk/proms and get creative, good luck.

Royal Ascot Etiquette Guide

Royal Ascot. Yes Royal. The World’s most famous race meeting. It’s steeped in history, founded in 1711, Royal Ascot is the most prestigious event in the racing calendar. Racing history is created here. Annual prize money for the royal meeting will be in an excess of £5 million, talk about a decent pay off.

The Sartorial stakes are also high, so you don’t want to look out of place. Don’t worry too much though, we’re here to help.

It’s tradition to follow the Royal Ascot dress code. If you’re a patron of Ascot’s royal enclosure then you must have a morning suit. Our Royal Ascot Hire collection has been specially designed to meet the dress code of this prestigious event, so you can relax and enjoy yourself knowing you’ve complied with the strict attire regulations. We have 6 top hat and tails packages; you can opt for different styles including a classic style, peacock style or our very own Royal Ascot style.

Here are some of our favourites;

Now, to finish the look. Dramatic headgear isn’t just for the ladies. Get a top hat or you’ll stick out like a sore thumb. When Edward VII saw Lord Harris in a brown bowler hat he loudly enquired, “Goin’ rattin’, Harris?”. So, just remember it’s the royal enclosure and gentlemen are required to wear a top hat at all times.

If you’re in public enclosures morning suits are still extrmely popular, but aren’t essential. So here are a few other suits that will help you fit in and look the part;

Now go get the beers in, but be careful with your suit.

If you haven’t got tickets yet or want to know more information about Royal Ascot please call (0)844 346 3000 or simply visit www.ascot.co.uk

A Football Manager

As we near the end of an exciting season of football, we take a look at some of the guys in charge.
A football manager doesn’t have it easy. He’s constantly under pressure, constantly expected to achieve and constantly in doubt of his job. This could explain some of the hideous outfits we see. Too worried about the job (which is a good thing) and not too worried about what they’re wearing. As we’re a suit company, we like a manager that ticks both boxes.
Some managers have taken to wearing a formal jacket over the top of a tracksuit jacket. If you’re doing this, just stop, you look like an idiot. Apart from this, most managers fall into one of two categories; Track suit or Proper suit.
We’ve narrowed it down to our top 5 best dressed football managers, in proper suits, of course.
In 5th is Pep Guardiola. Always very sharp looking but adds his own casual touch here and there.  It doesn’t always work, but fix that tie Pep and you might pip 1st.

In 4th we have Roberto Mancini. Mancini’s look is elegant, like his Italian nature. This is reflected in the way he knots his Man city scarf with true Italian style.  Otherwise, you really can’t fault him.  Well done, Roberto. Shame about the city job.

In 3rd we have Jose Mourinho. Now, Jose is a controversial one. He is a rule breaker and does wear tracksuit jackets with blazers. But, like some say he’s the special one and does what he wants. Jose if you stop this you could make 1st.

 In 2nd is Joachim Low. Joachim is known for his touchline fashion (not forgetting his nose picking), flawless style and exquisite taste, Jaochim we like your style.

In 1st we have the Italian manager Cesare Prandelli. What a man. Just look at this picture;

So, there you have it, the Italians have the style. Let’s see which managers look best and go the furthest at this summer’s all-important tournament.

#LEAVEITOUTMUM

Proms are coming up and we know you want to look your best. So, our advice is #leaveitoutmum. We know you don’t want your Mum picking out what you have to wear. So, tell her you got advice from the professionals. But don’t get too cheeky because we all know she’ll be the one paying for it.

If you want to impress that girl you’ve had your eye on all year or just look good for the photos, listen up. Firstly, make sure you buy a suit that best fits you. Our suit experts will help you in store to decide what is best for you. But if you want to purchase online just take a look at our suit fit & sizing guides;
http://www.moss.co.uk/fit-for-all-men-suits
http://www.moss.co.uk/sizeguide
Secondly, after you’ve decided on your suit it’s all about the accessories. With accessories you can either purchase to match your date or just add some character to your suit. We give 15% off for students so you’re better off getting your whole outfit sorted with us.
If you want to dress as sharp as possible for prom, choose from our Ventuno 21 Dinner Prom suits.
If you want to opt for a more casual look, add some colour with our bright Ventuno 21 suits collection. Don’t be afraid to wear trainers with suits.
Dinner Jackets have also become very popular on their own. You may of seen Justin Timberlake sport this look before. Here are our a few of our DJ’s;
The picture at the very start also shows off our range in Ventuno 21 check suits. Very popular and stylish.

We have accessories subtle and eccentric. Everyone is different and there are many to choose from. Are you going for a Bow Tie or a Tie? Click on the picture below to see more.

The night before the prom, make sure you’re prepared; iron your shirt and hang out your suit. If your suit is a bit creased, run a hot shower and hang your suit in the bathroom, the creases will be steamed out (and your Mum will be impressed that you’ve managed to sort yourself out). If you’re getting ready at a friends, or sleeping over afterwards, a suit bag might also come in handy. Just ask us when you’re in the store.
You’re going to look good, feel good and impress. It’s your time to step up and tell your mum to leave it out. You got advice from the pros.
P.s. After your prom, your summer awaits. So look out for our competitions on Facebook & Twitter to win multiple prizes & annual theme park passes.

Colour Your Wedding

Pick your Perfect Wedding Suit

It’s your big day, your going to be centre of attention (along with your partner of course). People are going to be photographing you left, right and centre. You have to look your best. So pick carefully and take your time. We’re here to help.

Get measured

Best leave this to the professionals and seek a tailor. Moss Bros has over 130 stores in the UK that offer a swift and attentive service, and we are particularly fond of the Regent Street store, in all its opulent glory. You can choose to buy, hire or even custom-make your perfect suit with its bespoke service. It has a no-fuss 1-2-3 service, where they alter the cut to fit your shape, pick the fabric that feels the best for you, and then add the detail that makes the suit exclusively yours. As well as its own in-house lines, Moss Bros holds other brands including Ted Baker,
French Connection and DKNY.

Know the formalities

Occasionwear can be tricky; you are going to be dealing with some of the sartorial unknown here – unless you’re a seasoned attendee of the Pride of Britain awards or the Oscars – so make sure you are completely clued up with how to knot your tie, bow tie or cravat. Moss Bros has helpful and easy tutorials and instruction guides on how to smarten yourself up and how to do up that tricky bow tie – you don’t want any last minute panic on the big day.

Don’t forget the details

Make sure your collar is stiff, your cuffs have cufflinks and your cummerbund is colour coordinated, if you are having them of course. Socks need to be thought of – Spongebob Squarepants socks are not going to cut it, however a polka dot or stripe would be fun. Moss Bros can even cater you with sporrans and kilts if you are planning a ceilidh of a wedding (underwear is of course optional).

For the shotgunners

Sometimes there just isn’t time. We know you’re busy, you’re all-consumed by love, and you have to get it done quickly. With the launch of the online hire service from Moss Bros later in 2014, you can even customise your outfit (with help from a Cher from Clueless-style outfit builder), and pick it up and drop it off when you are done. It’s instant and easy to use.

Where’s your Pink?

Pink? Yes Pink. Stop being so macho; surprise your partner and add it to your wardrobe this summer. Pink is complimentary to many skin tones and is a calming colour, which is fast being adopted as a cool refreshing look.  Spring ’13 marked a big rise to the forefront of pink into men’s style. And in Spring ‘14 it has flourished with almost every shade imaginable. And no, we’re not pulling your leg for April fools. It really is on trend.
Now, our advice when wearing pink is to avoid any shades which are too fishy.  You don’t want to look like a salmon. The hue should be light and not too overpowering.  It should complement and subtly refresh your look.

If you want to tip your toe in the water, but don’t feel brave enough to go head to toe in pink, try one item to enhance your look. Pink shirts can always refresh your look as well as any other pink accessory.

Now you’re thinking ‘I would never wear a pink suit’. But I bet you were saying you would never wear such and such a year ago and oh look, now you are. So take a peek at our Ventuno 21 Pastel Pink Suit. Such a perfect shade you’ll be able to get away with wearing it as a whole suit.

If you’re wondering when you can wear pink, well you can wear it any day you please. A nude colour such as pale pink is perfect for subtly livening up your work attire.
Now, if after reading this you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed with how much you like pink, go lift some weights. It may comfort you.
