Today, we’re delighted to launch our national campaign celebrating this and supporting all couples involved.

Our first wedding campaign featuring a same sex couple goes live this week in 70 Moss Bros store windows nationwide.  (It’s the picture above in case you missed that).  The image chosen for the window is from Attitude’s magazine “ Love & Marriage” book and shows Union J band member Jaymi Hensley and his fiancé Olly Marmon wearing looks from our Spring Collection. We’re delighted to have these two on board and we know their wedding will be amazing.

We want to make a truly welcoming and inclusive environment for all our customers. So if you’re tying the knot, pop in and see us.

We’re trying to discover which city is more stylish; New York or London?

Apart from stating the obvious, both cities are flourishing cultural centers, and hubs of busy life, with underground transport, parks, attractions and numerous places to eat or party. If you don’t mind brushing shoulders with your fellow city dwellers, they are fantastic places to live or visit. (We won’t mention the ridiculous cost of living in both cities because that’s not a competition, it’s a pain in the backside.)
It would seem that in many respects the New Yorker and the Londoner are very similar. Both take pride in their appearance, lap up the busy lifestyle and enjoy a drink. This being said, do the fellas dress the same?
Well, London has long been synonymous with style, fashion and a dapper look. And why wouldn’t it be, Saville Row was after all the birth place of the suit and has been styling chaps since 1731. New York has always been a stylish city, but some say it’s now fallen behind, as the popularity of London Collections: Men has elevated London’s style credentials. #NYC men’s style tends to be a more slicked back look, a clean aesthetic, not too flashy, simple but modern. The slim fit suit is very popular, fulfilling the need to be dressed for business, but still look sharp. London men’s style tends to be more experimental, with checks and tweeds layered with accentuating bold coloured accessories becoming increasingly popular.
Two brands which illustrate the differences between #LDN & #NYC men’s style are French Connection and DKNY.
Founded in 1972 in the UK, French Connection is a fashion brand born out of a desire to be original, distinctive and accessible. Our exclusive collection of French Connection suits, jackets and shirts, gives you a great opportunity to dress up for the perfect #LDN look.

DKNY was founded in 1984, the brand is the perfect expression of a sleek look but at the same time staying professional. Our exclusive collection of DKNY suits are perfect for business, standing your ground in the boardroom, or achieving success with a killer interview look.

However, we’re never quick to judge. We know both cities have men who are extremely well dressed and stylish. It doesn’t matter where you live, what determines your style is your personality. But let’s not sit on the fence! Which is the more STYLISH city?

Black Tie Fashion

The 16thof February is BAFTAs night, with the BRIT Awards following closely behind on the 19th of February. Both award ceremonies are celebrations of British talent and an opportunity to be proud of our nation’s creative accomplishments.
Amazing films and toe-tapping music aside, what we’re really interested in are the suits, and we are sure to be treated to a great line up, with all attendees looking their tip-top best.
The BAFTAs are all about the ultimate Dinner Suit and The BRITs are certain to push the boundaries with a sharp, eclectic take on modern tailoring. Both events will showcase some handsome fellas.

We’ve made a few predictions, so here’s what you can expect.
For the BAFTAs the traditional dinner suit will be out in force. However, recently there have been some popular metallic colours popping up,  as well as this year’s biggest trend; blue.

The majority will be wearing dinner suits with satin peak lapels similar to ours…

Others may just focus on the dinner jacket itself, like our Moss Bros Covent garden Dinner Jacket.

Even if the event is strictly black tie some people mix it up a bit with knitted ties. These have become extremely popular recently…

The BRITs – Here the Dinner Suit becomes more relaxed, brilliantly portrayed by these smart chaps;

However, expect to see a much more individual look. From blue suits to checked pieces, many music artists prefer a touch of colour, and a more quirky approach, but still staying loosely within the dinner suit theme. Here are two Ventuno 21 dinner suits that reflect the BRITs style;

However, the traditional dinner suit will make an appearance, thanks to JT.

If you ever are lucky enough to attend an event like this, just remember what’s on trend, keep it smart and never think the Bow-Tie isn’t cool…

Valentine’s Day? Panic Over.

The 14thof February is Valentine’s Day; your opportunity to show that special person in your life how much you love them.  It’s the most romantically charged day of the year, so expectations run high.
If you’ve already made plans, then we take off our hats to you. However, we know most of you probably haven’t. It’s getting closer and closer to the date, so if you’re in a panic ringing every restaurant from The Hawksmoor to Burger King. Relax. Here’s a few tips for the perfect evening.

Do your research. – Make sure you know what they like. There’s nothing worse than booking a Steakhouse when they’re vegetarian.
Surprise them. – Even if they say they don’t like surprises. They’ll only dislike it if you get it wrong. So do something that’s meaningful to them and something they wouldn’t expect.
Earn extra brownie points, turn up with flowers. – You might be thinking flowers are so predictable. Don’t be naïve. Ladies love them. (Majority vote in the office).
Smarten yourself up. – Don’t turn up in the same old clobber. As good looking as you may be, you won’t surprise them in your old kit. So dress to the nines and jump into a suit.
Here are a few suits with that wow factor;

For slimmer guys, opt for the grey check suit by Ventuno 21. For a more dress down feel, try teaming the jacket with a pair of chinos; http://www.moss.co.uk/Chinos

For those with an athletic figure try this vibrant blue suit by Moss 1851. Pair with a new white shirt and patterned pocket square for a sharp, crisp look.

And lastly, where to have that date?
A romantic restaurant, cinema, theatre, amusement park, footie game (only if she’s a fan), dancing, or escape the rat race and try something more personal. Stay in, demonstrate your culinary skills, – cover your place with flowers and candles, serve champagne in the bath and serenade her.
They’ll forever be in awe of you. Next year it’s their turn.

Antigua has an array of beautiful beaches.  So many in fact that there is one beach for each day of the year.  Most of the most popular beaches are located on the calmer Caribbean side of Antigua and include Half Moon Bay, which is now a national park.  All have powder soft white sand and aquamarine seas to seduce the lucky winners.

There is so much to see and do in Antigua that a week may not be enough time to fit it all in.  The Caribbean Product Manager at Best At Travel highly recommends the following:

  • The weekly jump-up at Shirley Heights, where locals and tourists gather to drink rum and dance while the sun sets.
  • A visit to historic Nelson’s Dockyard.  Admiral Nelson’s base in the 18th century.
  • A day trip to see the sleepy sister island Barbuda, which has a 17 mile stretch of pink sand beach, and is home to a bird sanctuary.
  • A catamaran trip that circumnavigates the island to spot many of the 365 beaches & to enjoy snorkelling in  the crystal clear Caribbean waters.

Blue Waters Resort is set in a stunning location across two white sand beaches, surrounded by 17 acres of tropical garden in the north west of Antigua.  It is the idyllic tropical paradise which every person dreams about having earned, over the years, an enviable reputationas being one of the Caribbean’s finest resorts and prides itself on delivering a first class service to its guests. With several freshwater pools, two secluded coves and 17 acres of pretty tropical gardens.

Best At Travel has been synonymous with providing affordable luxurious holidays to the world’s most exotic destinations for over 20 years. Whatever you wish to experience their expert travel consultants will plan the right itinerary for you, helping to show you more of the world for less.

What ever your plans for this spring or summer, at Moss Bros. we’re sure to keep you looking tip top.

Wolf It Up

Since the release of The Wolf of Wall Street last Friday there have been no signs of the hype slowing down. People are flocking to the cinemas to catch a glimpse of the debauched lifestyle of Mr. Jordan Belfort.  Some bankers have even organised private viewings, for which they are dressing to the nines with sharp suits and slicked back hair.
Love it or hate it, Jordan Belfort’s self-assurance is reflected in his choice of suit. He isn’t the nicest of men, however, manages to sweet-talk his way through life as a penny trader with an exceptionally sharp look! The Wolf of Wall Street is excessive, and whatever your views the suits of the time were designed and worn to ooze confidence. Belfort is brilliantly portrayed by the immaculately dressed Leonardo Di Caprio.

Curious on how to get the look, here are a few tips;

Overt shoulder pads and a bright tie are a great way to be confidently assertive. You never get a second chance to make a first impression. This could be a potential interview winner!

Moss Bespoke Suit – Made to Measure

The double breasted suit, although extremely popular for power dressing in the 80’s is now reserved for those with a very particular taste.  Although 2 button options were popular on the catwalk in recent seasons, they haven’t (yet!) become mainstream.  Be bold and look like Belfort in this made to measure double-breasted chalk stripe suit, from £495 by Moss Bespoke (available in selected stores).

If you’re more reserved than Mr. Belfort, choose a single breasted mid grey option; perfectly versatile and looks great with virtually any colour shirt and accessory combination.

Here are a few similar suits;

Updated with slimmer lines, this Ted Baker tailored fit 2 piece heritage check suit has a great fit and allows you to look relaxed but stay sharp simultaneously.

Above left is a regular fit grey suit in Zegna cloth. Similar to the Ted Baker, it has a more comfortable fit yet allows you to stay sharp. Finally, above right is a Cerruti cloth tailored fit mix and match suit in indigo. As well as looking impeccably smart and sophisticated, this suit highlights the biggest colour trend this year; blue.

Now go and enjoy yourself, but easy on the debauchery. Otherwise, you’ll end up like Mr. Belfort.

The Men’s Guide to Buying the Right Suit

Buying a suit can be quite a daunting and intimidating experience. At a first glance, the sheer number of options and the range of details to consider may appear overwhelming.

However, by following a few simple rules and knowing which decisions need to be made can make it much easier to look sharp and feel comfortable. Setting a budget is important but even more so is getting the right fit – a well-fitted suit will always look more expensive than an ill-fitting one. Whether you’re looking for a sleek slim fit suit , a sharp tailored suit, or a classic regular fit, read on for how to find the best cut and fit for you with some top tips and advice from those in the know.
Choosing a Cut
Slim, tailored, or regular cut suits all have different defining features. Getting clued up on what each of these terms mean will make any suit buying journey much smoother.

Selecting the Details
The Anatomy of a Well-fitted Suit
Once you have decided on the cut, fabric, colour, and other defining characteristics of your suit, the biggest step is finding a suit that fits. By paying attention to the key areas, finding a suit that fits will become a matter of instinct.

Tips to Remember

Voice from the Experts
Craig Landale, founder & editor of Menswear Style @ http://www.menswearstyle.co.uk

If you could choose one suit that will stand the test of time what would it be?
“A navy two button single breasted, notch lapel suit is probably the safest bet. Blue is very versatile and can be worn with both black and brown shoes at ease. Although double breasted suits are trending this year, the single breasted has stood the test of time”.
What rule do you always follow when choosing a suit?
“I stay away from fashion suits, I’ll go slim but not skinny and it has to fit right. Get a 2nd and 3rd opinion on the suit fitting. Don’t go too cheap and stick to reputable suit brands.”

Personal Stylist Gabrielle Teare @ http://www.gabrielleteare.com

What suit is the best style and fabric for everyday wear?
A single breasted suit fits most male body shapes. Fabric depends on use; the more silk and cashmere in the fabric the less durable the suit is. Beware buying shiny fabrics or those that are overly large i.e. wide pin stripes. Look to see if it creases on the hanger.
What tips would you give to ensure the best fit when choosing a suit?
Try it on; ensure it does not pull across the chest or when you raise your arms at the back. If you are long-waisted the jacket may not cover your bottom so check that the suit jacket is long enough. Trousers and suits can be tailored to fit so do not worry too much if there are small alterations needed.

What rule do you always follow when choosing a suit?
When buying a suit I always find out the level of authority of the man and what he will use it for. I also ask the budget as, to a certain extent, the more you spend on a suit the bigger choice of fabrics and cuts. If the budget is smaller we look at a range of suits and try to find the one that enhances your natural shape and hangs beautifully. I measure the man to work out what length of jacket will suit.
Celebrity Fashion Stylist Joe Ottaway @ http://www.joeottaway.com
What are the key features of a well-made, quality suit?
There are many key features of a good suit but the main to look out for are:
·         A good fabric with a weight of 10-12oz which means the cloth has a tighter closer weave, lightweight, but robust enough to with stand the rigours of day to day wear.
·         Look out for a “rope finish” to the shoulder line of the suit. This again means the arm hole and shoulder have much more support and structure and can endure a lot of wear. Traditional English-made suits have this feature whilst more Italian made suits have a much softer shoulder line.
What advice would you give to a man shopping for a suit on a budget?
Maximise your budget and choose a suit with the best fabric you can afford preferably 100% wool. Look at high street institutions as they carry very affordable well-made suits with a range of fits from short, regular and long.
What rule do you always follow when choosing a suit?
Choose a suit which has timeless appeal i.e. something in a classic colour, such as navy blue or grey. This is an investment purchase so choose a timeless style, able to be worn at any point in your social and work lifestyle. Look for a mid-notch lapel to increase its timeless appeal.

What to wear for the new year’s party

2013 is about to come to an end, but before you pop the champagne, make sure you look good for the occasion and greet the new year in style.
For a neutral yet stylish look we suggest this blue DKNY suit.

The above outfit is suitable for most occasion, but if your party is a black tie, we would suggest one of the following classic dress suits.

If you are looking for a slightly different dinner suit,  have a look at our Ventuno 21 collection. The suits are slim fit and come in a range of colours. These suits were hugely popular for proms, and they are suitable for new year’s parties as well.
Don’t forget to accessorize; for black tie dos you would need a dress shirt, you would usually wear a bow tie and patent dress shoes and cummerbunds;
Usually you would wear a bow tie with your dinner suit, below are our Moss Bros ones – choose from a classic self tie bow tie, or if you find it easier, a ready made bow tie.
Happy new year everyone!
