How to shop the sale like a pro

It’s sale time. A fine excuse to pick up a bargain or invest in something that might otherwise be a little out of your reach. But where do you start? With so many sales on at the same time, and so many items to catch your attention, it’s hard to know how to get the best return on your hard-earned cash.

If anyone knows what makes a good purchase, it’s our buying team, so we’ve enlisted their expertise to help you shop the sale like a pro. Their advice? Go in with an occasion or a certain look in mind. Here’s their pick of the smartest buys in our summer sale:

Got a wedding coming up? Break free of the same old suit you pull out every time and use the opportunity to try something new for less. An ice-blue suit is a crisp option for summer occasions and makes a great alternative to greys or darker blues. This version also comes in all 3 of our fits – skinny, tailored and regular – so there’s an option for every shape and build.

A coordinated sky blue knitted tie and pocket square is an unexpected choice for weddings and this matching set makes it simple to stand out against more traditionally dressed guests. The sale’s also a great opportunity to upgrade your white shirt with a textured jacquard version and pick up a pair of always-wearable brown dress shoes, such as this stylish monk pair by John White.

Though it’s a trend-led option, an ice-blue suit offers remarkably versatile styling opportunities. Switch out the white shirt for a pastel blue or pink version and either keep things tonal with darker blue accessories or take advantage of sale prices to be a bit bolder with colourful floral braces.

Maybe you’ve left it to the last minute to get your outfit sorted for prom (we understand – it happens). If that’s the case, may we suggest a skinny fit grey 3-piece suit as a great investment that will see you stylishly suited up for prom night and beyond? Add interest with bright and bold accessories. Top tip – look out for ties with tie bars included to get even more bang for your buck.

Already got your prom suit? Use the sale to pick up a standout shirt to amplify your prom look.
From puppytooth to floral to a slick black version: anything goes, so be brave!

By the time the middle of the year rolls around, it’s easy to feel a bit stuck in a rut with what you wear to work every day. Now’s a great time to invest in something a little more interesting that’ll refresh your weekday wardrobe now and still work when the new season kicks in.

Texture was key for this season and will continue to be for AW17 and beyond. Why not upgrade your daily uniform with a textured wool suit in on-trend airforce blue or silver grey?

Now you’ve got the base sorted, brighten up your business look for the summer with light blue, pink and lilac. Carry on the textured theme with geometric or striped patterns – a simple way to lift a so-so look to something much more interesting.

And finally, pick up some classic accessories that’ll see you through the rest of the year and into next, such as leather brogues or monk shoes and pastel-patterned accessories.

How to up your shirt game

Sleek, supple, resilient: Serving up our extra slim fit stretch shirt.

Our most streamlined fit is cut close around the back, chest and shoulders to enhance your form. Crisp, cotton-rich fabric is woven with a touch of nylon and elastane for unbeatable resilience, unrestricted mobility and all-day comfort.

Designed to stretch as the body moves and bounce back to its original form, it works hard to maintain its shape (just like you do). Tailored to hug your frame and finished with a smooth sheen so you look at the top of your game, morning ’til night.

From essential white to office-ready pastels and deep hues for after-hours, our stretch shirt collection is updated each season in of-the-moment colours and patterns.

All rounded off with an easy-care finish, meaning less time getting dressed and more time for play.

Game on.

Who’s your daddy?

header

Make your father’s day.

There’s nobody quite like your dad so, this Father’s Day, give him a gift that shows you appreciate the kind of man he is.

The question is: who’s your daddy?

risk-taker

THE RISK TAKER

He might be your old man, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to give up on looking young. Always ready to try something new, this dad’s all about taking a few risks to show he’s still got his finger on the pulse.

Give new meaning to the term ‘dad style’ and gift him classic menswear with unexpected details. A sharply cut, tropical-print shirt, silver astronaut cufflinks, rubber-soled leather sneakers or a reversible belt for when he wants to mix it up are all guaranteed to freshen his style game. Flamingo socks? Well, even Risk Taker dads aren’t immune to a novelty sock now and then.

the-man-of-taste

THE MAN OF TASTE

He might not know the ins and outs of a Snapchat filter, but this dad is still top of the pops when it comes to dressing like a gent. From what he drinks, to what he drives to what he puts on his feet: he’s a stickler for the finer things in life.

Do the father of good taste proud and give him gentlemanly gifts that’ll suit his refined style. Our picks? A pure cotton double cuff shirt to add some luxury to his working week, an elegant paisley pocket square to help him stand out at his next social occasion or a pair of sophisticated leather brogues to thank him for treading such a well-dressed path for you.

the-label-lover

THE LABEL LOVER

The label lover dad is no ordinary dad, so he likes the things he wears to be a little out of the ordinary to show that he’s his own man.

If this is your dad, then bog-standard socks just aren’t going to cut it. Instead, go for gifts with a little designer flair like a well-designed document bag that beats any boring briefcase or chunky soled brogues to help him march to his unique beat.

And, who knows? If you treat him to an extra nice designer wallet to keep his notes in, he might be more inclined to give you some out of it from time to time.

Q Mike x Tailor Me

It’s always a treat to see our Tailor Me suits out in the world and we loved seeing photographer Q Mike show off his creation in suitably elegant style at Daunt Books in London’s Marylebone.

Mike opted for a navy wool 3-piece in a skinny fit with a subtle chalk pinstripe. We think his choices of a traditional notch lapel, straight pockets and light grey buttons are a fine match for the book shop’s grand Edwardian architecture.

Here’s what he had to say about his Tailor Me suit:

“I always love a well-tailored suit and this was everything I had in mind, it was perfectly made. With the Tailor Me suit personalisation service, Moss. has paid meticulous attention to my needs and made this into a dream come true. Being in a new suit that’s so comfortable and flexible to move around in, it feels great knowing that it’s a staple I can count on for meetings and events I have in town.”

Check out his post to see more of his shoot and if you fancy taking a leaf out of Mike Q’s book and getting your very own custom-made suit, you can find out more about the service here then drop by one of our stores to talk to a Tailoring Expert to start your Tailor Me experience.

The kit you need to work smarter

performance_suit_tip_header_image_3

The weekday wardrobe: it’s easy to get stuck in a rut when you’re faced with strict office dress codes. But with a few styling tricks up your well-ironed sleeve, you can create a bank of different looks to get you through the week. Here’s how to build a wardrobe that’ll get the job done:

Let’s start with the suit. For busy days, we suggest the Performance suit. With natural stretch, a breathable lining, crease recovery and a water and stain resistant finish, it’s made to take care of business. Save the waistcoat for days you need to make a big impression and stick to a 2-piece for easy-to-wear, everyday style. This bright blue shade will set you apart from all the usual greys and navies in the boardroom but still looks professional.

Next up, the shirt. A traditional choice for the British office, the formal striped shirt is a classic you can rely on. If you’re a regular fit guy, opt for Savoy Taylors Guild. Choose bold stripes in bright colours for impact, or a slimmer stripe for a more discreet effect.

For a contemporary look, our pick is this Moss slim fit textured stripe shirt. Made from 100% cotton with an easy-to-iron finish, it’ll get you out the door through to post-work dinner without breaking a sweat. Even better, its optic-effect stripes and wider collar give it a premium feel that’s bound to impress clients – and your boss.

performance_suit_tip_post_image

And now the accessories. Here’s where you can dial up the mood, depending on what’s on the agenda for the day.

For a failsafe option to complement your blue suit and striped shirt, stick to similarly coloured accessories.

This navy knitted tie will add a little texture for interest and a plain white pocket square will always look smart. Fold it in thirds, rather than half, for a neater look. A bit of advice: always stick to cotton pocket squares for the office as a satin one is better suited to weddings and other special occasions.

Bring the look up a notch by keeping the white pocket square but swapping the navy knitted tie out for this wine coloured one, which will really pop against your blue suit. Great if you want to stand out in a meeting, without distracting from all the important things you’ve got to say.

Want to take it a step further? This navy striped silk tie will mirror the pattern of your shirt but its broken stripe pattern is a more modern take on plainer styles. Switch out the plain pocket square for this Moss stitched edge version. It’s a sharper option and its edging picks up the colours of the tie. Little touches like this make all the difference to set you apart as someone who cares about the details.

Last but not least, let’s talk about what you put on your feet. Blue suits should always be worn with brown shoes, and you can’t go wrong with classic derby lace-ups like these ones by John White. Unadorned bar the neat stitching, they’re a sophisticated finishing touch that’ll take you seamlessly from the office to the bar.

Alternatively, these textured derbies will subtly complement the knitted tie options mentioned above. They’re a little less formal, though, so keep these for days when you can afford to dress a touch more casually.

And there you have it: one suit, several styling options to see you through the week. The kit you need to work smarter.

How to dress the Italian way

italianlux-insidepocket-01

‘Made in Italy’ is a phrase we all know as one that stands for quality, craftsmanship and luxurious style, but there’s also a distinct look to the way the most stylish Italian men put themselves together. It’s a balance of confidence, sophisticated colours and considered details, all while making it look effortless. Sounds like a tricky one to pull off, but you can certainly borrow a little of the look for yourself – here’s our guide to dressing the Italian way.

FABRIC, FIT AND REFINEMENT

First of all, fabric and fit are everything. Luxurious fabrics are the base of Italian style and investing in a suit made from high-quality wool is a great place to start.

Take the navy check suit shown above. It’s cut from pure wool cloth made by Ermenegildo Zegna, the Italian woollen mill that’s world-renowned for the quality of its fabrics. It’s a great example of the mill’s refined take on seasonal trends with its subtle check design. Pick out its tonal light blue check with a textured shirt in the same hue – this Savoy Tailors Guild one will do the trick.

Considered accessories are key to Italian style and a great chance to inject just the right amount of personality to your look. Try this silk polka dot tie in classic navy and red. A matching hank is available but, for this look, we suggest complementing it with a pocket square in a flash of red instead.

DETAILS ARE EVERYTHING

Another key thing to get right? The perfect length of your sleeve cuff and trouser hem. Our continental cousins choose to have their cuffs and trouser hems stop at precisely the right spot (just high enough to show an inch of your shirt cuff and the top of your shoe, to be exact). We offer an additional alteration service from our network of stores, so ask one of our Tailoring Experts to arrange to have your suit adjusted to get these little details just right.

 italianlux-insidepocket02

SOPHISTICATED SHADES

Distinct doesn’t necessarily mean loud, and one way to achieve the effortless sophistication of Italian style is to stick to a restrained palette of muted colours. Faded shades and neutral colours are also key trends for suits this season, so now’s a great time to work them into your look.

The neutral suit shown above right is cut from Lanificio F.lli Cerruti Dal 1881 wool, another highly respected Italian mill that supplies luxury fabrics to prestigious British tailors. Rather than fading into the background, its soft hue gives the impression of a certain level of self-assurance – ideal to stand out in your next meeting without looking like you’re trying too hard. Set off its luxurious shade with a crisp white double cuff shirt and a deep red tie for a splash of colour.

Alternatively, try switching your usual blue suit for the dusky blue version shown above. Also made from Lanificio F.lli Cerruti Dal 1881 pure wool, its tailored fit and muted shade will give you the air of relaxed elegance that the Italians do so well. Ideally suited to the sunny pavements of Florence, it’ll also look effortlessly sophisticated at any summer weddings you’ve got coming up paired with this tie and pocket square in cream paisley patterned silk.

Tame the trends

ss17

Refined tailoring is always in style, but this season traditional office wear gets a bold, new update. From exaggerated checks to new grained fabrics and strong colours, there’s a lot to catch your attention in SS17. Trends don’t have to be intimidating, though – it’s easier than you think to go beyond what’s expected. Here’s how to dress to turn heads in the new season:

TEXTURED TERRITORY

Suit surfaces move into new territory for SS17, with textured finishes giving daytime tailoring a tactile appeal. This Moss 1851 silver grey suit is a great example of how easy this trend is to work into your weekday looks. Made from pure wool, its subtle pin dot design is visible only at close quarters and from further away simply gives the fabric a granular look. On-trend but absolutely wearable, it turns the standard grey suit into something altogether more interesting.

Layer your textures by pairing your pin dot suit with a softly textured shirt, like this pure cotton chambray version, and round off the look with a touchable silk tie in a bold cross pattern.

PATTERN PLAY

This season geometric patterns such as checks are key, and are now bolder and delivered in new, grainy textures. The windowpane check of this Moss 1851 hopsack jacket is spun in neutral shades of brown for an optic twist against the fibrous feel of its navy hopsack weave. It’ll pair beautifully with indigo denim but to truly master the look, we suggest wearing the full 3-piece suit.

If you’re going this bold with your suit, you may as well demand full attention by playing up its pattern with a graphic shirt. Just make sure you pick one in similar hues – like this slim fit shirt in a micro dash print – to make sure your statement look is a stylish one too. A knitted silk tie – again in a similar hue – will add a luxurious finish to the coarser texture of the hopsack wool.

BLACK, WHITE AND GREY

Tame two trends in one stroke with a bold Prince of Wales check suit. With its amplified puppytooth design in black, grey and white, it ticks off both the trend for monochrome and geometric patterns, giving a very traditional print a modern rework. Complement its laser-sharp fit and impactful pattern with an extra slim fit white shirt and a minimalist skinny black tie.

How to get back on track after the New Year

expert-james

The festivities are well and truly over for another year and you’re probably feeling a bit sluggish as you head into 2017. Rather than lofty new year’s health resolutions that are difficult to stick to, we asked wellbeing expert James Tickner to give us some simple tips that you can fit into your week to help you get back on track for January.

BREATHE DEEP

Try to perform 2 minutes of deep breathing a day, inhaling fully, pausing, then exhaling and repeating. Saturating the body with oxygen keeps the immune system high and the body fully nourished and in a healthy alkaline state, which will bring energy and vitality

DRINK YOUR VITS

Tuck into green smoothies and juices – the anti-oxidants and phytonutrients will keep the immune system strong and energised when there’s a lack of vitamin D. Reds juices with berries are also brilliant for this.

Drink ginger tea to raise immunity, keep the body antiseptic and ward off any unwanted bacteria entering the system. Boil a thumb-sized piece of ginger in water for 15-20 minutes and enjoy with lemon and honey.

MIX UP YOUR WORKOUT

You know you need to exercise regularly but make sure you’re also performing a combination of strength and endurance work. It’s important to keep the nervous system stimulated with resistance work, but also get the cardiovascular system working with aerobic fitness for the wealth of positive cellular activity this brings to strengthen the system and keep immunity high.

HIT THE SAUNA

Try to get to a sauna if possible and follow it with a cold shower to boost the immune system and raise core body temperature.
